Forums - Nintendo Discussion - DO NOT BUY Grand Slam Tennis!

Too late OP, grand slam tennis is already on his way to me :)

I checked out some videos of GST and did notice there's a severe lack between the player's swing and what's happening on-screen. It also looks and sounds kind of off, if you know what I mean. It looks sluggish and unrealistic.

I hope Virtua Tennis delivers, 'cause frankly it looks much better than GST.

about the backhand not working properly.... do you do a 1 handed or 2 handed backhand?
I'm right handed, one handed backhand, the tip of the racket at the start of my backhand motion is pointing to the right behind my back... Forehand doesn't have that problem. If you do full motions, maybe that is where you get the misread...

Damn, I just realized I'll never be able to play that game :/ ... cause I'm incapable of hitting a tennis ball with a 2 hand backhand...

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

The vast majority of impressions I've read were positive about the controls. People say they can put the ball wherever they want to, including people who actually play tennis.

Just like when the Wii first launched, all the people who are too hardcore for motion controls and just suck at them will review games poorly by saying the controls suck when it's really just they don't know how to play. If any of these "hardcore" press actually turned on their Wii's more than twice a year they might know how to play its games a bit better.

Grand Slam Tennis was fun, very much like Wii Sports Tennis but with a bit more depth, and that's about all that matters. Tiger Woods is better though.

Please don't blame it on the reviewers instead of the game. It's really annoying when people do that. Tiger Woods uses motion plus, and it's getting great reviews. It's not the fault of reviewers that Grand Slam Tennis isn't a good game. And I heard a lot of PS3 fans claim that Lair is a good game if you just learn how to play it. It's all just false. And I should certainly hope that GST has more depth than Wii Sports Tennis, considering that it's a full game instead of one of five sports in a demo-style game.

So you have already concluded it isn't a good game? Based on what?

Only Eurogamer has said the game is bad, other than that it's getting fine scores. 73 metacritic with Eurogamer, 80 without. You mentioned Lair which has 53.

i understand EA Sports choice of softening unforgiving 1:1 controls. However, I would expect them to be available in a hard mode to real tennis players. So far, I'm worried about GST, especially because I was moderately hyped before. I look forward to read a comparative review with Virtua Tennis -- or at least have both games reviewed by the same team. If Virtua Tennis offers me 1:1 controls, I can overlook the ugly looks.

i'm also right handed , one handed backhand player but it's not that it doesnt work properly more like that i want to make a forehand (or backhand) and have the controler already in that motion but often the player turns to make a backhand instead and vise versa wich is very annoying.

And it sometimes doesnt recognice my swing at all  or swings too early even tho i just started to make my motion with the controller and after the player made a swing he cant make another one in time.

oh yeh and one more thing i coudnt do a lob or stop without buttons, coz in some reviews i thought they wrote u could do that without buttons when u use wm+, atleast i dont know how that would work

Improvements are caused by people who complain

I can't seem to get the ball to go down the line yet.. Annoys the crap outta me..

you just suck at tennis simple.

PRACTISE.

Anyone noticed this quote from IGN?

"Our own video guy Anthony Cava is a serious tennis player, and he called it the best tennis game he'd ever played after just a few minutes with the controller"
