this list is garbage.

some games, though I don't agree with them, I can understand why there on this list.

but Bioshock? ok, it was a good game in all, but I felt I've played that game thousands of times before. it wasn't innovative at all.
same for half life too.

I agree with you on Bioshock but Half Life?  There was nothing at all like that before 1998.  (Unless you think all FPS's are the same)

no Super Mario Bros. for the NES?....that game changed what games could be like

Super Mario Bros. and Tetris both belong on the list.  One measures innovation by its impact on the industry.  Real innovation leads to breakthroughs.  Anything new that doesn't lead to breakthroughs, is merely creative.

WoW.....Halo and COD innovative but no LPB.

psst...look at #6.

The botched abbreviation made me think of another one that should be on the list: Little Computer People

Little Computer People was first.  I would go with The Sims though, because of the impact it has had, which was larger than Little Computer People.

"Before Halo, console first-person shooters were a dismal affair: the horrid console-based control schemes made the PC the only place to play serious FPS games."

Yea, I guess Goldeneye 007 and Perfect Dark were horrible and not serious FPS games....

Also, Doom being on top of list is pure idiotic.. Like someone already said it was just an upgrade to Wolfenstein 3D.

The list could have been a lot better. Also, missing was Super Mario Bros.  Including The Sims but leaving out Sim City????  Also, good point Richard- Where the hell is Civilization (either 1 or 2 should be on that list).  Blah, screw this list.  Oh wait, this is from gamepro.  No wonder.... They have been trash for quite some time.

For a list filled with FPSes it is a travesty that Goldeneye007 is not on the list, as it completely revolutionized the genre, whereas Bioshock and Halo, while phenomenal games and made great improvements on the genre, really didn't bring anything new.

Zelda:OoT also revolutionized the adventure genre, as can be seen by how just about every adventure game made since then has been an OoT clone for the most part.

And why does Starfox never get any credit for being the game that killed the sprite? The polygon chip changed gaming forever.

It's missing Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros., Tetris, Ocarina of Time (invented Z-targetting), Mario 64 (invented camera controls), ya know, like, innovations that have become industry standards.

Also, the list is a joke.

Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved on a list of most innovative games? The game has "RETRO" in the title becauseThe game is 2-D. It follows Smash TV, Robotron, and Asteroids. I love all these games, but Geometry Wars is not innovative by any stretch of the imagination. It's a very solid tribute to a classic arcade genre. It's possible to really love a game without blindly hailing it as innovative when it clearly isn't. (cough cough FF7)

Not that I disgaree with the list being a joke, but Mario 64 is number ten on the list. Personally I'm overly biased for it and would put it higher simply because it more or less helped define what 3D platformer gaming really is. At least, I think it did.

The list is pretty bad, like day old sushi or the Los Angeles Clippers.

I read the whole list, and saw Mario 64 in there, but then I guess I got so mad I forgot it was there.

Also (while already stated) KOTOR was the first to make morality choices and the outcome affected the game much more greater than in Bioshock.

Edit: Not the first sorry but they did put choices and morality at a greater scale then Bioshock did.

Ancient Domains of Mystery (an ASCII Roguelike) had morality at a much greater scale than either of those back in 1994, and it wasn't the first either.

Pong no?

Failed list, it looks as if GamePro played on PC too much

Hey - Elite! That was pretty innovative.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

GTA III should be first.
