Forums - Microsoft Discussion - I'm thinking of giving up on 360 entirely

that is beyond true.  how is 2006 an old system?

im xclamping, and if it dont work, oh well

i am grabbin ps3 this weekend regbardless, as its my new online system, i'll try not to get a too old one from 2007 or nothin

All I can say is welcome man. Welcome to PSN and hope you enjoy some great games. We sure got a lot of gems in store for this year and years to come. And I must say, as being a gamer for over 20 years, I never feel naked with "only" PS3, Wii, DS, PSP and a PS2 (yes honorable mention. Still growing backlog). Even though I rarely play my Wii though, it's a good backup system for those special gems from Nintendo!

Maybe I will see you around on PSN, but not for about 2 months time though, because I'm not home atm...

=)

"My PS2 from the early 2000s is a middle-age system, still works after YEARS of play."

Most ridiculous comment on here, everyone knows the problems the Millions of PS2s had especially with the DVD drive, not reading, draw not closing grinding etc, the only difference is the web is far far more common than when the PS2 faults first appeared.  Just google it -

As for the original OP you should seriously ask yourself "who cares if you choose not to have a certain game console any longer" if the PS3 (Which I presume will also be "SECONDHAND") breaks twice YLOD, diode etc will you tell us you are no longer having one of those either?.

You may as well have put my (Insert brand here) toaster "which I bought secondhand" has broken down on me twice and I'm thinking of swapping it for a much more expensive model that also has a timer and talks to tell you the toast is ready.

I know about the PS2 problems, and I was actually going to point that out as well. BUT my launch system still works and since everyone knows it had problems, I shouldn't need to!!! I just stated that MY PS2 from the early 2000s is a middle-age system, still works after YEARS of play. And LOL, how is that comment MORE ridiculous than the one stating that a year 2006 360 is a very old system and that is the reason it RRODs. But whatever you say ^^ Not going to post again for further derails. Good day / night sir.

My PS2 which i bought a year ago wont play some games,it still works it just wont read all of my games...

Then you treat it terribly. My early 2003 fat PS2 and late 2004 slim both work perfectly after thousnads of hours on each.

My fat PS2 died on me like 3 months before the PS3 launched and it was my fault for dropping a bottle of cologne on it. Still it worked for 6 years without any problems.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

I've never had a console break. Except the NES.

I don't get it.

You bought a USED Xbox 360 that was very old and certainly ran the risk of being a major issue. Now your complaining it red ringed?

I'm suprised such a fan of the 360 wouldn't understand that. I'm sorry to hear about your 360's demise, but the fact is, we all know that older 360s aren't that reliable. With a MFG date of 2006, you know, as well as I do, that it's a very old system, and can RROD on you.

My advice? Buy an arcade. Jaspers are very reliable (and you should know this).

LOL @ bolded/underlined...

My NES from the late 80s/early 90s is an old system, still works after YEARS of play.

My SNES from the mid-90s is an old system, still works after YEARS of play.

My N64 from the late 90s is an old system, still works after YEARS of play.

My GC from the early 2000s is a middle-age system, still works after YEARS of play.

My PS2 from the early 2000s is a middle-age system, still works after YEARS of play.

My PS3 from the year of 2006 is a NEW system, still works after 3 years of play.

Under no circumstances can any 360 be considered an OLD system, nor a VERY old system as you state. The fact that you actually write something like that is fascinating...

OT: There is a reason I don't have a 360, and especially knowing about the failures, I would never buy one. "Oh noez! I miss some games that can only be played on the 360!!!". Don't really bother me to miss some games. Been there, done that... I can't believe people still come back, or even buy new systems while sending in their RROD ones. Even after 1,2,3,4 even 5 RRODs!! For me this is a huge puzzle (and yes I know someone will say: "because of awesome games, etc we continue to buy")... I guess there are plenty of "double sales" in MS 360 sales data..

It's old given the significant amount of changes made to the Xbox 360 in it's 4 year lifespan. There have been 3-4 significant changes which radically changed the reliability of the machine. Therefore, I consder it 'old' - Just as I would consider a large PS2 'old'.

My problem with most in this thread is the lack of understanding concerning the X360. I've been on this forum now for 2 and 1/2 years, and I've constantly had to defend 360 reliability issues. As Playstation 3 fans love to exude, 360's, before the Falcon revision, were very unreliable. I find it very suprising that people still post 'OMG, my old 360 bricked, how ever did it happen to me!?' despite the HUNDREDS of RRoD discussions we've had over the years, and the definitive statements made about how reliability on 360's fare:

  1. If your 360 was made before April 2007 , you stand a significant chance of it breaking once, somewhere in it's lifetime. 4/07 was when the 2nd heatsinks went in.
  2. If your 360 was made between April 2007 and October 2007, your 360 has the 2nd heatsink, which makes failure less likely, but not impervious.
  3. If your 360 was made between October 2007 and October 2008, your 360 is much more reliable due to the major Falcon revision.
  4. If your 360 was made since November 2008, your 360 is as reliable as a Wii or PS3 due to the Jasper model.

Again, I consider consoles made before major revisions 'old', regardless of the console. Yes, 3 years isn't old in the grand scheme of console gaming history, but it is for the 360, and any major console that shipped with significant issues (such as the PS1).

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I dunno man. My friend's elite got the Red Ring and it's a late 2007 model.

Mega - then your friend is one of the elite few that's had a RRoD issue since the Falcon remodel.

To date, not a single VGC-er has had a Falcon or Jasper die due to RRoD.
