So I have been recently feeling a wave of love for sci-fi, and I decided I wanted to play a space strategy game. I have played Star Wars: Empire at War, and then I donwloaded the demo of SoSE, and I really like it.

But is it worth getting the full game, how good is the story etc...

Thanks for any advice

SoSE is very, very good. I only play the skirmish though, not the missions. Have played it for hours.

I got the expansion pack for it (Entrenchment) a few weeks back, but haven't played it yet - I have a week off work though so I should manage to squeeze a few hours in!

I am largely platform agnostic. I fail to understand why some people get overly fanboyish about what is an inanimate piece of electronics that's obsolete even before it's launched, when there are far more important things to champion, such as preventing environmental destruction or preventing millions of people dying unnecessarily from illnesses. This fact however, doesn’t mean I am not someone who doesn’t enjoy gaming as a pastime (as I have done for the last 20 years) or doesn’t have a strong interest in how the market is evolving – hence my presence on this site.

Platforms owned – PC, DS, X-Box 360, PS3, PSP and Wii.

It doesn't have a single player campaign, but it is an excellent game.  Individual matches can last for hours though, so it isn't really a game to be played in short bursts.  I think there was going to be another expansion to add a single player campaign, but I'm not completely sure about that

it's like civ in space... so great

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

isn't it in real time though?

I should have bought it already, but I know it's a time-demanding game so I keep delaying it and buying other games (which I don't finish anyway)

another one I'm considering buying is Sword of the Stars, but it's another one it will take a while before I get it .

the words above were backed by NUCLEAR WEAPONS!

I thought it was boring
The sheer scale was very impressive, but it was too slow, I couldn't get into it

Clearly my tastes have changed as I've got older, I used to love games like this

Never argue with idiots
They bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience

Real time strategy part is bad for this game.

They should have made building as turn based and space battles as homeworld real-time battles.

I'd rather play MOO2 and Homeworld 2 again instead of SoSE

I believe the game Sword of the Stars is like that. It's been a long time since I tried the demo so I don't remember it that well.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but my copy of SoSE has no 'mission' mode. It's all skirmish (albeit user-defined skirmishes).

It's a good game. But as far as I've played, 100% of the game is in skirmish mode...So that is entirely upto you on if that's good or bad.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

it is only skirmish mode. but the game us pure amazing.
