Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Punchout becomes Wii's newest AAA title

well who would have thought it. back when this wa snnounced at the 2008 october conference many felt that this was simply a filler title, a game of medium quality to tide wii owners over until the next big EAD release.  instead we find that this is nintendo's first big release of the year, their killzone 2/Halo Wars as it were.

The game from NLG has is AAA is both quailty and marketing push amd so will hopfully achieve great sales. is 3 million out of the question? there are now 5 AAA nintendo published games on wii as opposed to 8 (excluding zelda remakes/ports)  on gamecube and 13 on the N64. at the end of its lifetime howm many do you think there will be?  althought metacritic is not the be all and end all of game quality and there is an argument for the term being meaningless. Nevertheless it is a good measure of whether nintnedo has truly ''abandoned the hardcore'' or not.

so what do you think the next AAA nintnedo game will be? do you think the freshness of motionplus help wii sports resort achieve it? perosnall i think that WSR will get about 82 on metacritic and that pikmin 3 will be the nest one. but after the surprise of punchout,  maybe S&P2 has a shot

It's a game that's full of fanservice and stays true to one of the NES most popular franchises.

Right down to the fighters fighting the same way the first time around.

It's no surprise that's the kind of thing that reviwers would love.

They probably spent half of college mastering Punchout on their emultaors or something.

I will start by saying that Punch-Out for the Wii is the first title on the Wii I have actually wanted to purchase since Mario Kart or SSBB, so it may be time to wipe off all the dust.

There are no other game(s) coming by the end of this year for the Wii that I am anticipating.

I'll never understand this kind of post. I mean, what are we supposed to tell you? "Great job pal, wii sucks". the Wii has had an amazing 2009, with a lot of AAA stuff like Mad World, Overkill, Little King's Story, Excitebots. And in these days, along with Punch-Out, Boom Blox: Bash Party and Fatal Frame are getting released. In Japan we had Fragile, Muramasa and next week Arc Rise Fantasia, plus Monster Hunter G. It's your fault, not Wii's. The same thing happened to me with my PS 3, but I didn't go on the Internet complaining about it. Probably I am a bit nervous, I don't mean to act as a bastard, nor a Wii fanboy, yet I think this meme "This is the only interesting thing" is getting boring. Why don't we just talk about the game instead of whining bout the Wii?

Anyway, I'll be buying it this afternoon. Friggin amazing, I cannot wait. I only hope there are more secret chars than the only one we already know of.

I don't think that using Metacritic to judge if a game is "AAA" or not is right, honestly. If GTA IV is a 99 game, then I think titles like Fire Emblem, No More Heroes and Excite Truck deserve to be 103 titles. The review system is broken, and a lot of sites are either made of fanboys or suggested their scores by the publishers. It doesn't deserve to get all the attention it has. That said, I'm always happy when a Wii game is received in a great way.

You should wait, its score will most likely drop, however I'm sure this is a fantastic game, the new control games seem to be doing well as well!

Well Giantbomb just gave it a 5/5 stars.

Gamespot hasn't released a review yet, so that will be interesting.

Don't get me wrong, I want this to be AAA, not that it changes the actual game.

But as more reviews come in, nearly all games go down in score.

@seece, actually this one has been going up in score :D

the review that gave it 75 is one of the worst reviews ive ever read. it says that motion controls are 'unavoidable (and optional)'

Well it could go against the grain, I really doubt it though ..
