I like a few non-traditional fighters every now and then though.

What do you consider Battle Arena Toshinden or Samurai Showdown to be, rather than Traditional? It's traditional, but Soul Calibur gives you full circling ability.

I consider Samurai Showdown traditional do to it's input scheme....Toshiden I do not consider traditional....As for Soul Caliber I do not consider traditional becuase of it's "Ring Out" aspect...It's more along the lines of Virtua Fighter...Tekken blurs the lines a bit...and has had changes implemented into it's series as it progress much llike Dead or Alive....
My understanding of traditional and Non traditional was the Input Scheme.....If you or anyone feels different about this or has a source where this was defined differently I would like to read or see it
Traditional: classic MK 1&2, SF IV, SC III are my favourites.

The whole point of putting them in different categories is to signify that they, in fact, do not play similarly. You can say MBAC plays like Arcana Hearts. This is very easy to do. If you've played both, you notice that they do in fact feel very similar. You can say Street Fighter plays similarly to Tekken and while the most hardcore fans of the franchises will die a little inside to hear that, it's more or less true. You would be very hardpressed to say Street Fighter IV plays like Arcana Hearts 2. Beyond the basics of button combinations and blocking (things shared by most all technical fighters), their similarities are very tiny and the fights are very different. I encourage you to have another look at those videos (which I know you didn't bother watching) to understand. |
First of...Tekken Plays nothing Like Street Fighter...Tekken has a "Chain Combo" type of playing mechanic but it's not like SF..At all...And Although MBAC and Arcana Heart Implement Arial Combat the Input Scheme is the same as Street Fighter...
While I can assure that SFIV only has a "Juggle" implementation to extend some combat to arial, Arcana Heart Is has Full Blown air combos..The Only thing that separates Arcana Heart is the use of the Arcana's...But at it's Core It plays just like Street Fighter (Control Inputs and Commands) I must say I see your Point in where these fighters are very different..But I would rather you think of them as Evolved...
I always felt That the first No traditional Fighter was World Heroes, Followed By Virtua Fighter...Soul Calibur at it's core play's just Like Virtua fighter..
Xmen;Children of the Atom and Marvel SuperHeroes are great examples where Traditional fighter Evolved paving the Way For Guilty Gear, Arcana Heart and Melty Blood

This.

Signature goes here!
I want complete control over my character. I want every button (in combination with a direction is fine) to make a specific move, and the depth to come from my adeptness at using those moves quickly and well together.
I do not want my moves to be dependent on a silly set of hitting buttons rapidly that have nothing to do with the special attack I'm trying to execute.
So, if that answers your question, Brawlers like SSBB and JUS, and games like UNS (which I also consider a Brawler, but whatever). I think combos are barely better than button press sequences in games like God of War, and are not a skill I ever want to be good at.

Afraid to get destroyed by someone who doesn't play Brawl competively because of the huge lack of skill it has?
