Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Is Nintendo Still a Game Company?

I was wondering exactly how long it would take for someone on the journalist end to propose a moratorium on Nintendo. Certainly many commenters i've seen have promoted this idea ("why are we talking about them anymore? They're not a game company"), but i was waiting for someone higher up to say that

Though ultimately it was only partially trolling. It does raise a legitimate point in saying that Wii does muddy the picture of how one discusses "video games" and "video gaming," you can't say that "exclusives are dead," because Wii's library is mostly exclusives. You can't talk of the death of Japan since, on the Wii, Japan still rules. You can no longer paint the industry with a broad stroke

Isn't this just "The Wii is a toy" argument, dressed up in slightly different clothing?

So...because Nintendo makes games of different genres, they can't be considered as a gaming company? ...I don't get it

It probably would've been better if he made more valid points.

On Topic: Since PS3 and 360 are both pisioned as Multimedia Entertainment Hub, does hat mean no one is making a video game system anymore?

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

Well, they still do videogames, but they have changed as a company, and stopped catering to the "hardcore". I would say that Nintendo and the Wii/DS is more a "toy/superficial entertainment" mentality than anything else.

Oh, that's a really good idea.

While we're at it, why don't we change the New York Times book list to exclude Harry Potter, and let's take Bill Gates off the Rich List because he made his money with software which let's face it isn't a real product.

And we can take Mount Everest off the highest mountain list because it doesn't start at sea level and change the result of a cricket match because we don't like the umpire.

Yeah.

Lists and comparisons are like accounting. They're either honest or not, and once they are dishonest they don't tell you anything useful.

Bah, humbug.

Actually, the NY Times did exactly that. It created a children's literature list to move Harry Potter books off of the main fiction list -- which it dominated.

And given how many adults read those books, it made as much sense as this rant from Kombo.
