Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why WM+ won't help Wii in Japan. Too little, too late.

Why people belive Wii motion+ will provide big hardware boost to Wii sales is something I don't understand. If you were interested in motion controllers you would already have it and then more accurate one is something you want but if someone didn't care about the controls before why would he be excited when they are making them more accurate ?

Just wait until the first lightsaber game comes out, it will be a system seller for more than a few weeks.

I think WSR might be a big hit in Japan and improve Wii sales for a while too. Wii Sports has sold great in Japan even if it isn't bundled, and sequels to big games usually sell very well. Then other games will be needed as well, of course.

^Oh, and yeah and a 45%+ attach rate for that unbundled game is gonna help.

After all, it's not the peripheral that's the booster, it's the games using it that is vital.

How many Wii is doomed threads do we need?

One more thought... If we look at the sales trends this generation, it's obvious that Japan is the one territory where sales are heavily influenced by the software which has been coming out (and this goes for all of the platforms).

Software is what's needed in Japan, MH3 and WSR will be big and might keep the Wii up for a few months at least.

^Well, whenever a well marketed new release comes for a console, people will flock to buy it. The same reason why even Star Ocean 4 provided a boost for the 360 there.

Well SO4 is completly diffrent case as it made fans of previous titles buy new console to play it. But fans of WSR are already on the system hence why i predict massive game sales and small hardware boost.

Star Wars light saber fencing game with WM+ and every japanese otaku is buying wii sports resort day one - they love star wars.

It's not too late... plus, many japanese gamers LOVE golf, so the best golf simulation ever created so far could be a BIG hit, even if it's "realistic" and not made by a japanese company using cute characters...

For me, WM+ is like a Wii 1.5: it's not a brand new system, but it's an update that will make HUGE impression and will find HUGE success, just like Wii two years ago and Wii Fit one year ago...

Anyway, i don't care about that kind of negativity: i remember what most people said about Nintendo before (and even after) DS and Wii came out, and they were always so wrong it's not even funny anymore, and certainly not important at all...

An anime style Golf game using WM+ would be big in Japan no doubt, but not Tiger Woods.  And no Golf games are annouced nor expected (except on PS3 where they have sold stronger despite a much smaller base).   Nintendo would do very well to release a new Mario Golf with MW+ this fall or at least New Play Control Mario Golf using it.

And just an FYI, since you're new.   I was one of the first and only to evangilize the Wii before/when it first came out, predicting it would dominate this gen.  I predicted Wii Fit would be enormous and usher in a new genre of fitness/wellness games.  I also predicted Wii Music would be successful but not a system seller like people expected.   So please don't lump me in with that Wii bashing crowd.   I love my Wii.

However Nintendo decided to sail the Blue Ocean and while it's vast and wonderful, it's also uncharted and they were bound to hit some unmarked shallows sooner or later.   While I'd love to see Nintendo merely succeed, it must be earned, these challenges must be overcome and if nothing else, they are setting the course for others to follow with both their successes and failures.

Wii sports is not bundled in Japan and sold 3.5M copies... Believe me this will sell.

I tend to agree with this. Japan in the last number of years seems to not be console centric, but more software centric(as it should be). I don't believe the cooldown it related to the console specificly, but due to the lack of appealing software. At the moment Japan seems to be either serious focused games or very broad software entertainment with little room in the middle.  Once games that appeal to the Japanese tastes start coming out again software and hardware sales will start going up.
