Forums - Sales Discussion - Why 360 and PS3 will have the best attatch ratio in history.

I don't know about Ps3 & Xbox360, but I'm pretty sure the Wii will have lowest attach ratio of the 3.

Of couse the 360 will have the most not sure with Wii or Ps3. But I guess that Wii will have less attach rate then Ps3. There has not been a Wii title in swedish top 20 chart for months.

Hmm, I'm thinking demos aren't going to have a significant effect on game sales. Somebody could just as easily not buy a game after playing the demo as opposed to making the purchase. You could also have a situation where somebody plays a demo which they really love and decides to cancel the purchase of another game and instead wait for the release of the game they've just experienced.

It may boost sales a bit but again, imo, nothing significant. You've also got to remember that 360/PS3 games are more expensive than Wii's which could hurt sales more than demos help them.

Finally, devs don't really care which console has the highest attach rate they care which one sells most games, end of story.

This prediction will only hold true if 360 sales percentages seriously falter.

The demographic groups who bought the 360 in 2005-2007 will be very different in buying habits than what Microsoft hopes for 2008 and beyond. Otherwise, pretty much everyone from the "previous buying pattern" will already have 360's.

The system people buy doesn't change the people; the sellers must tailor their systems to the people.

I would say that it is possible, but I would think that the main reason for this would be that the price tag of both systems would prevent people from buying the hardware for 1 or 2 games. These systems will spend the majority of their life at over $200 which will prevent the casual masses from buying their system and lowering their attach rate; this will also mean that their total software sales will not be as large, and their best selling games will have lower total sales.

Oh yes, of course! I played a demo of Prince of Persia a couple of years back, and I thought it was awesome! I wanted to find out what was past the first level, so I went right out and bo.....oh, wait... No I didn't. I just played the demo. And then I moved onto another demo. In fact, I haven't bought any software that I've played a demo of. Huh, how about that.

Globox82, you're just buying into the piracy bullcrap. People who won't buy the games won't buy it whether they can pirate or not.

If the game is good, people will buy it.

you are very naive. I know 10s of people that only have pirat games. They say it nicely "i wouldnever give 60$ for game" and i feel like a dick some times.

I know entire countries where most of the people only buy pirate games... in south america is nearly impossible to buy a PS2 without being modded... and you can buy the games nearly everywhere for 4$... and it south america the original games cost as much as 80$... and in Argentina according to a surbey against piracy there are more than 3 million PS2 and in brazil the number goes up to 8 million... so piracy is really and issue when you considere the attach ratio...

^ i personally wouldn't consider piracy, but i have to agree something should be done about console and game prices outside of Japan/USA, i used to get 2nd hand with cartridges, but with discs i usually just try to find it cheaper [online].... i mean here in UK we pay nearly 1.5X the US price, Australia it's almost double, and some of the south American countries even more [maybe not as bad as Aus in Brazil but the rest of SA is expensive].

It's as you quoted. The games weren't worth $60 to them and they will not buy whether they can pirate or not.

I buy games based on overall reviews that I check before buying. I normally wouldn't fish out any cash outta my wallet for games with avg rating of less than 75%. Exception are those that I know for sure I will like. Specific gameplay/gene.

Affordability is much more a problem than piracy. If people could afford a game buying it legit, I think they will buy.

As mentioned in some posts above. The prices are crazy in some of the remote places. Are people going to spend 1 month worth of salary to buy a game. Hell no.
