Forums - Microsoft Discussion - 360 D-Pad, just why did they design it like that?

it works fine for me but if you dont like it thats your opinion

I mostly play RTS and Moba style games now adays as well as ALOT of benchmarking. I do play other games however such as the witcher 3 and Crysis 3, and recently Ashes of the Singularity. I love gaming on the cutting edge and refuse to accept any compromises. Proud member of the Glorious PC Gaming Master Race. Long Live SHIO!!!!

I play DOA4 with the D-pad and sometimes it does something i don't really want to, but that's pretty rare. It's not the best D-pad but it's not impossible either.

Truth does not fear investigation

The days of good d-pads are over.

"Why do they call it the xbox 360? Because when you see it, you'll turn 360 degrees and walk away"

Well I haven't played too many games that use it much but I think it works fine...

I think every possible good d-pad design was patented by someone else.

Yea but Microsoft has released a way better d-pad on the Sidewinder for the PC way before Xbox. This thing goes for over $150 on Amazon.

Seriously? I still got one of those lying around somewhere.

Also, remember that Microsoft addressed this problem in Europe last year (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/microsoft-confirms-revised-360-d-pad)

but ironically, not in the United States.

The company that made that d-pad was called Advanced Gravis Computer Technology or more commonly just Gravis.

They made PC gamepads and d-pads for various other companies like Sega from the 80s through the 90s.  Sadly they were acquired in the late 90s by Kensington and were never seen again.

Try playing Dance Dance Revelation on The Simpsons Game and you will discover how bad the 360 D-Pad really is.

BTW, is there a 3rd party controller with a decent D-Pad?

I bought a Hori.

Turbo is useless, its wired (like all 3rd party controllers), and it looks... well I don't mind the looks, but some call is ugly.

The D-Pad is fantastic though!

Ummm I would not pay $150 for this thing but it IS listed at this price on Amazon.

This is a new one though. You could probably find one used for much much cheaper.
