That is my logic as well.

Thinking about it, Nintendo is approaching the Wii in a similar fashion to how they have handled their handhelds in the past ...

The Gameboy was big and clunky so Nintendo introduced the much smaller Gameboy Pocket

The Gameboy Advance had a dark screen, had an awkward shape and people wanted a built in battery so Nintendo introduced the Gameboy Advance SP

The DS was too large and the back-light wasn't that great so Nintendo introduced the DS-Lite

With the Wii acutal-users biggest complaint is that the motion control on the Wii didn't live up to their expectations and they want 1 to 1 motion control ... Nintendo has reacted to this by producing the Wii MotionPlus which will be released in the near future.

Much like their handhelds, Nintendo would not create a new platform which was not identical (from an internal hardware perspective) from their existing system in the first 3 to 4 years of the life of the system. When their system is 5 or 6 years old they may try to do more unconvential upgrades (DSi, Gameboy Color) in an attempt to increase the life of their current system and/or to try new things for the upcomming generation.

This is my predictions
XBOX 360 gets a 6 year life before the next version gets introduced, In the next generation they dont just kill it off like they did last time and they gradually move to the next platform.
PS3 will probably get a 5 year life before their next version comes in, in their case they will most likely do what Nintendo did the last year of Gamecube and have only limited titles and then quickly phase out PS3.
Nintendo Wii will probably go 6 years before they release new hardware, Nintendo has always enjoyed being late to the party anyway.
So I guess my predictions would end up being new Xbox and Playstation in 2011 and next Nintendo in 2012.

I Believe that Sony will stay true for their 10 years strategy and that Wii will have huge legs.

Actually, I believe that Nintendo will support Wii many many years to come. Since ps2 still sell HW and SW, Wii should see the same happening to it.
