Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why the PlayStation brand name is the strongest brand name in video games

@Squiliam: And PS2.
PSP is a little problematic because of the abbreviation, you're right about that, but it's still marketed as a part of Playstation family of products if i'm not mistaken.

You showed marvellous restraint here.

I think you missed that part

^_^

@Skeezer: It didn't define whether it should be a home console or a handheld one, if that's what you are meaning.

I said CONSOLE. Not handheld. We all know NIntendo is the king when it comes to handheld. But consoles are harder to sell. So tell me the name of Nintendo console who sold above 100 million.

N64 + GameCube+ DS+Wii= around 250 million units sold

PS1+PS2+PSP+PS3= around 321 million sold.

So, Nintendo got its ass kicked since PlayStation was launched

Sorry, but only NES can barely compare with any PlayStation console.

And comparing COMPANY like NIntendo and brand like PlayStation? More than fair.

Tell me the name of 1 nintendo console who sold 100 million? NO, tell me name of the nintendo console who sold 90 million? NO, tell me nintendo console who sold 80 million? NO, tell me... ah screw this i can go like this for ever.

Even if nintendo win this generation ( probably will ) its still:

PlayStation 2: Nintendo 1.

So YES, PlayStation IS the strongest name in video games. The only thing Nntendo have is Mario. Wii sports probably wouldn't sell above 20 million if they weren't bundled in EU and USA

I wonder how many replays i am gonna get from nintendo fanboys now...

I noticed that you missed (or conveniently left out) the GBA, which sold about 80M, which makes your Nintendo number up to 330 million.

So it takes nintendo 5 products to compete with Sony's 4 products.  Your are making the OP's point for him.

4 systems to 4 systems is what you want? Very Well then GBA + GB + DS + NES is a little north of 340 million consoles sold. So you can either keep it confines to a single timeline in which case it is a simple fact that Nintendo released more consoles, or you can limit it to the best seller where Nintendo has just been more successful. Either way Nintendo wins so I don't think it matters much.

OH REALLY? 60 + 120( GB color included) + 100= 280 million. You must be great at math.

@BladeOfGod: Yot didn't define whether the consoles should be home or handheld ones.

Anyway, could you tell where are you basing your claim about handhelds being easier to sell than home consoles? PS3 having sold less than half of PSP numbers?

Wii is more stronger than PlayStation THIS generation. but when it comes OVERALL, PlayStation stays the strongest brand in the industry. If nintendo win next generation it would probably become the strongest name again .You cant argue with the success PlayStation brand made. Wii is stronger NOW, just like SNES was strong back than before PS1 was launched.
