Not to mention the first BIG game on the 360 as well.

It is easy to find people who will tell you that Gears was the first game they ever played on their 360, the same can not be said for Killzone 2.

Also worth mentioning is that comparing 360 shooter sales to PS3 shooters sales will pretty much always have the 360 come out on top. The userbase is a completely different demographic. The 360 came in with a shooter demographic.

Mmmh that is a bit easy... I would say it created its shooter demographic (except if you want to make a bad joke about the americans ).

A testament to the M$ hype machine no doubt. A third person shooter that came out as peoples intered in tps was high. Graphicaly though to compare the two is a joke.

If you say so.... I will buy Killzone 2 this week anyway...but I don't think that it is so graphically superior to the Gears series... more different than superior to me...

Also, EPIC has had a great history of making quality games. Not to mention the 360 is and was a software cow......throw in holidays and the PS3 being retardedly high in price when released around the same time led to a lack of game saturation and Gears was the marquee game and the 360 the marquee console for gamers interested in HD blood and guts.

Id say all things considered Gears and KZ2 are pretty much on par with each other sales wise.....having played gears extensively id say KZ2 is a better game just because of the variety in online play, havent played the campaign yet but gears campaign i enjoyed immensely....so if i love KZ2 single player as much as gears id say KZ2 is a better all around.

Sales wise....all things considered id say theyre about equal.

I think KZ2 on its own has accomplished something amazing though.....no one is talking about how disappointing KZ1 was now....KZ2 has been so amazing that it has essentially erased all the bad taste of a terrible first installment....no easy feat to make such lofty claims for nearly 4 years about a game with a mediocre (being generous) first installment and to deliver the way guerrila has. kudos to KZ2.

Gears of War has sold over 5.5 million copies. KZ2 would be lucky to break 3 million sales ltd.

Two big gun games from 2005 E3 show released two and a half years apart. Interesting battle in the making.
PS3 fan: "Killzone 2 will outsell Gears of War ltd sales easily".
Realist neutral levelheaded person. "KillZone 2 has no chance of even coming close to match Gears of War sales".
How come we do not compare Killzone 2 sales to Gears of War 2 sales? Both games were released within a few months of each other and both are sequels to popular games.

BTW: Killzone 2 on its own is not enough to warrant buying a PS3. There is still the big issue of $400 retail price for a PS3 console.

Going by the fact that the Xbox 360 has a NA centric user base which of the three consoles is the most interested in shooters.  It was also the first 360 game to really show off the graphical power of the HD consoles. 

Also,  Gears of War sold about 1.36 million in it's first two weeks.  Which really given all the information we have on Kill Zone 2 right now, is pretty damn comparable.  It was the word of mouth that caused Gears of War legs to increase until it's currently close to the 6 million mark.

Even with a smaller user base than the PS3 currently has the 360 probably had as many people interested in Shooters (In their limited user base then the PS3 currently has with it's larger userbase,  based primarily off of location of sales and typical consumer.

yeah. i don't remember the last time i saw a ps3 commercial.
