Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why we wont be seeing a next gen console for Nintendo any time soon.

1) Its still selling at an amazing rate ,

2) No signs of a price drop , hell the price is going up,

3) Its destroying competitors,

4) Nintendo has spent such a long time in a drought that its not even going to attempt a release until its truly threatend,

5) Its making so much money on the sidelines while Sony and Microsoft fight it out,

6) Its trying to identify its real enemy ! Sony or Microsoft,

7) Doesnt want to risk losing its user base.

Now, flashback to 1999, cross out Nintendo and replace it with Sony, then cross out Sony and replace it with SEGA, and Microsoft with Nintendo

Success doesn't mean it won't get replaced, despite the Wii's unique condition. I really don't think Nintendo is going to hold on to the Wii for as long as everyone keeps saying. A 5-year span, just like normal.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Nintendo will hold out on a Wii 2 until such time as competition or declining sales prompts them too be that in 2 years or 10.

Actually, I think for the first time there might be something like Wii 1,5, which keeps everything the Wii has just technically better and some new gimmicks. However, we should see a price drop within the next year and some new colors first.

i added pics for fun.

normal life spans are about 9 years long. if anythign nintendo will release a new system that has backwards capability with the Wii but has far more sensitive motion controllers.

After all, GM doesn't make cars anymore, right?

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

Old people using Wii, whats wrong with that eh? Means i don't have visit my grandparents anymore. In fact theyre dead so thats probably a good thing.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

And it will be called Wii Motion+ ?

Well, I'd personally hope that the first next gen console won't be released until 2012 at the earliest, just like how Windows XP lasted for 7 years (2001-07), rather than the rapid releases of the previous Windows.
