Forums - Sales Discussion - KZ2 Sales Will Be Huge, But...

Note: This is my first post, but I have been lurking on the forums for awhile now and I finally figured I'd add something to talk about ;).  I haven't been a big gamer for awhile (see: "casual") and have never owned a Playstation *GASP!*.  I recently made the move to a 360 ($235 CDN Pro Holiday Bundle on Boxing Day, w00t!) and it has really made me more hooked on video games than I have been in quite some time.  With that out of the way, onto the topic at hand!

KZ2 sales will be huge, but do you think this game will be a console mover for the "unconverted"?  What I mean is, it is pretty much a given that it will be a huge hit amongst the faithful who already own a PS3 much like MGS4 was, but I'm curious how it will fair in actually making people take notice and spend $500 to play it (from a Canadian point of view: $400 PS3 + $70 game + tax = over $500 (unless you live in Alberta)).  I think if MGS4 had no legs and barely made a ripple in the PS3 sales stats, I'm not sure a less established franchise like KZ2 will fare much better. Thoughts?

Consoles Owned: Atari 2600, NES, Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn, N64, Gamecube, Wii, XBOX360

I think the first comment will come from the "no MGS4 legs" >_>

It probably won't move hardware all that much, but it should get the PS3 a tad closer to the 360 that week and perhaps still a bit elevated the week after. And it'll be an excellent bundle-title, especially the cover will lure people.

This is 250th time this kind of topic has been made but I'll answer anyway.

At this point in the console cycle, nobody (who thinks clearly) expects any single game to move any significant # of consoles except maybe in JP but even the consoles that are moved there are irrelevant with respect to WW sales.

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

No. There are already awesome FPS's on PS3. A better FPS is not going to suddenly change things for prospective buyers.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

unlikely, the only game that might shift more PS3s outside japan is Gran Trurismo 5

this

that said, i fully expect to see this exact same thread started for halo wars and this point will have to be reinterated.  ./sigh

I think Killzone 2 will be a system seller. This due to PS3 owners showing off Killzone 2 to friends.

The PS3 has good FPS games, but Killzone 2 is set to be the best. And for example being interested in both Resistance 2 and Killzone 2 is more powerful at selling the console than having either only Killzone 2 or Resistance 2 available.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

Sorry did you say that that MGS 4 did not move consoles? Just take a look at the yearly sales for the PS3

KZ 2 wont convert many but there could well be a boost

Yea, possibly a boost but it isn't going to last long. Basically the only thing that will move more PS3 will be a price cut.

The friends with glasses will decide they don't want the game or the system because its too dark. So the younger friends will not buy the system because they have no money and the older friends will decide against buying the system because the games too dark.
