Forums - Sony Discussion - KZ2 reviews: masterpiece or review industry desparate Sony doesnt fail?

Gamerankings.com 94 and Metacritic 95. Very high scores so far but how much of this is blind faith and a fear that if this title were to flop then it would be bad news for Sony?

Whilst I am in no way an advocate of review scores being important (the only relevance I see them having in this industry is devs bonuses linked to Metcritic scores and that I think is a bad thing), I am interested in the trend of high initial scores followed by critical backlash further down the line - GTAIV being the best example of that, MGS4 being the one that has remained as far as I can see, bulletproof and is ironic that it's score was quite a bit lower than GTAIV.

wait?

the same industry turned their back on sony on their darkest hour.

remenber 2007?

the game turned to be good for it own merits, and no sony isn't paying reviewers, they don't have the income to pay so many people millions.

Maybe the game is good and reviewers mutually agreed as well.

but no,that a little too far fetched.

A Sony game performs well and you start questioning the gaming industry ? seriously ?

Maybe individual publications may feel the need to support Sony but I seriously dought there's a general feeling of "let's help Sony even though their game is a piece of shit , they need as many 90+ as they can get right now".

People need to deal with the fact that Killzone 2 might actualy be a good FPS , possibly the best FPS on any console . I know...it's scary.

Both could be true. Reviewers don't want Sony to fail now that they realize it would be another step on the way to the end of 'hardcore' gaming, and likely their own industry. But Killzone 2 could still be as good as they say.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Well, GeOW scored highly as well, so it's not like Killzone 2 will be the first 90+ rated shooter this generation.
I also think that the GTA4 scores are inflated due to the popularity of the GTA games. If you look at it that way, Killzone 2 scoring this high, despite its not-so-well scoring predecessors, is an achievement.
And MGS4 is the kind of game you hate or love. Some loves the story while others hate the cutscenes.

I think Killzone 2 is up there because it is in fact a good shooter.

Wow, thats reaching a little wouldnt you say? To think that all of these review sites are trying to save Sony by hyping up Killzone 2 and save the industry. Why cant this game just be a great game.

God of War did very well on release last gen. No one questioned it's merits. if anything it would seem that the sony haters are just getting ridiculous this gen. So sony can't publish good games now? Seriously?

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

Flamebait thread.

This seems rather silly, Killzone 2 is just probably that good.
