Star Wars in Blu-ray that will speed up the war quite significantly.

Lusas has mentioned that he has no plans to bring any of his IP to HD systems.

It's not surprising considering that he didn't release episode 1 on DVD until 2002 or so and the originals until late 2003 if memory serves correctly.

He always says no , i lost count of how many times i have heard him say that lol !!

Yeah i know so Star Wars on Blu-ray will be "A long time away in Galaxy far far away...".

End of 2014 Hardware Predictions (03/03/14)

PlayStation 4: 12-15million

Xbox One: 7-10 million

Wii U: 8-9 million (Changed 01/04/2014 from 7-9 --> 8-9 million)

I think a lot of you guys are missing the point here. As long as there are 2 competing formats, the price will go down quicker. This is good for the consumer. It really doesn't make sense to buy a player now anyways. Most of the movies haven't made the upgrade yet. By end of next year, the players will be dirt cheap and all your favorite movies will be on the new format. Provided you go with a dual player. Let them duke it out as long as they want. Stop being sheeps and following these brands that don't know you.

I say let there stay 2 competing formats until mid08 when the movies and players are cheap enough for mass market and then one of them dropout which will probably be HDDVD due to the studios backing Blu-ray and more movies being on Blu-ray.

Wow, this is truly, truly... huge news. If there was ONE movie I would consider getting in hidef - it would be Transformers. This will do more for sales of HD-DVD players in the US than anything.

So how do PS3 owners feel now... that you CAN'T watch Transformers (or other listed) movies in hidef?

(actually a little surprised, I figured that all studios would eventually go dual formats)

...

Sorry kiddies - but the hidef movie format isn't over by a long shot. This is just another reason why I wouldn't buy a PS3 now - will get a dual-format player if anything (when/if I do get a hidef player + TV...). I wouldn't want to buy BOTH a PS3 & dual-format player...

@mitsuhide - please don't go down the Soriku road - trim your sig! I'm begging you... :P

Wow, someone who is one of the biggest fanboys I have observed over the last however many months I have been registered here sure likes to throw around the fanboy accusations. But that is common around here I guess.

Star Wars would look horrendous on HD. Judging from what I have viewed on both BR and HDDVD, I think all of Lucas's tricks in the original Star Wars would show up very clearly, and in the newer ones the effects would look even more cartoonish than they did on the big screen. I can totally understand why he does not want them in HD.

Great news for HD DVD, but I am still not convinced either of them will survive. I do think a few of the BR exclusives might take this as an opportunity to jump ship in the coming weeks since I believe they were betting on PS3.

@everyone - this is the real problem with the Sony strategy (integrated technology). Its like a huge gamble, a risk. Great rewards if they win (and BluRay becomes dominant) - but great danger if they lose.

They now face the real risk of BluRay dragging down the PS3 - forcing people to buy a player (and pay extra) for something that people genuinely don't want or need.

This would have to be one of the most significant announcements in the next-gen war this year.

Things to watch for:

i) Sony's stock price: will show how people in the market perceive this news. If I was an investor, I would be getting very, very nervous around now.

ii) Accelerating PS4 development: networked version of the PS3, with the next CELL CPU (more SPUs - 16?) and a Wiimote style control system.

iii) Further price drop or bundling of HD-DVD drives: If MS ever wanted to hammer home the advantage, this would be the way to do it.

iv) Sony hitting back: Announcing cheaper BluRay players, more bundles movies and exclusive BluRay content.

v) Sales variations: Immediate drop in PS3 sales, and an immediate increase in HD-DVD (player) sales.

...

Someone just turned the heat up...

Do you think developers will continue to produce $20 Million games on the PS3 under the promise that when the PS3 hits mass market prices people will buy it?

The reason why the console wars always end quickly is because consumers choose their console, developers react to that choice, and it becomes impossible for the slower selling consoles to attract more consumers. Only somebody lacking any knowledge of videogames would say that the PS3 has more than a statistically small probability of outselling the Gamecube let alone the Wii.

The knowledge and logic in this place is becoming more fanboy orientated by the day , it is like a zoo . I am not even going to respond to this apart from saying i do not remember the ps having huge backing for a long while ah well please yourself stay blinkered and we will see after xmas 2008 how different things will look .

So, what did I say that was factually incorrect?

When has a console gone from being one of the worst selling consoles of all time, and been outsold by a wide margin by its competition, came back and lead a generation? That's right, NEVER!

When has a console taken an early lead and used this lead to gain third party support and crush their competition? Pretty much EVERY GENERATION!

The PS3 is selling worse than the Gamecube which means that third parties will likely start giving the PS3 Gamecube level support. This low level of support will likely hurt the PS3 much more dramatically than it hurt the Gamecube because the PS3 will stay at $400 or more  (unlike the $200 or less Gamecube) when its early life system sellers come out; which should cycle to lower than Gamecube level support ...

Hahahaha at least you make me laugh , total nonsense .

Reading your posts is so annoying.  What are you laughing at?  How can you claim nonsense when you have absolutely nothing supporting your case?

HappySquirrel is one of the wisest and most balanced posters I've come across on these forums.  I've seen him make the claim he is in this thread countless other times, and he always backs himself flawlessly.  I'm sure he will do so again.  What you need to understand is that there is a difference between predictions based on historical evidence and past trends, and predictions based on mere hope and wishful thinking.  Quit making yourself out to be such an ignorant fool.
