Retail boxes of F.E.A.R.2: Project Origin have been hitting store shelves this weekend to allow consumers to pre-order the game and prepare for its release this coming February.
Surprisingly, the boxes indicate that the game will use Valve's SteamWorks feature, and a Steam account will be required to activate retail copies of the game.
At present it does not look like F.E.A.R.2: Project Origin will use the SteamWorks achievements system or incorporate stats, instead it looks like Steam is being utilized to act as the DRM for the retail versions of the game.

This is awesome!!! Valve is becoming a juggernaut. 2009 will be a huge year for Steam and it will increase it's costumer base by millions and millions because this year there will be several HUGE games that will be Steam integrated:
- FEAR 2
- Dawn of War 2 (optional)
- Empire: Total War
- Football Manager 2010 (not confirmed, but most likely)
- Whatever Valve releases (hopefully HL2: Episode 3)
