Forums - PC Discussion - F.E.A.R.2: Project Origin Using SteamWorks

Retail boxes of F.E.A.R.2: Project Origin have been hitting store shelves this weekend to allow consumers to pre-order the game and prepare for its release this coming February.

Surprisingly, the boxes indicate that the game will use Valve's SteamWorks feature, and a Steam account will be required to activate retail copies of the game.

At present it does not look like F.E.A.R.2: Project Origin will use the SteamWorks achievements system or incorporate stats, instead it looks like Steam is being utilized to act as the DRM for the retail versions of the game.

This is awesome!!! Valve is becoming a juggernaut. 2009 will be a huge year for Steam and it will increase it's costumer base by millions and millions because this year there will be several HUGE games that will be Steam integrated:

  • FEAR 2
  • Dawn of War 2 (optional)
  • Empire: Total War
  • Football Manager 2010 (not confirmed, but most likely)
  • Whatever Valve releases (hopefully HL2: Episode 3)

Thats cool.

Im getting it on PC and 360. I hope the PC version has contoller support...the demo didn't

I know...controller voer mouse is blasphemy...but I like to kick back in a chair and play on my big screen TV, and its kinda hard to do with a mouse and keyboard.

All right! F.E.A.R. 2 on PC is definitely something else (having played all versions)!

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Watch my insane gameplay videos on my YouTube page!

Wow I didn't expect that, I was always worried Monolith would try to branch out and do their own thing...Steam really suits their games though, so going full integration is great for everyone.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

If HL2:Ep3 hits Valve will own 2009.

Well I guess that makes it go to <10 euro buy category for me like every other steam title (well ok I might make exception for E:TW)

second hand market on PC?! Even in PC-centric countries there is almost no second hand market for PC games.

Then welcome to Poland - the place where good selling PC game sells more than GTA IV :) (For example best selling pc game to date - Witcher sold more copies than combined number of X360+PS3 users we have )

And no I wasn't talking about shops selling used games - but rather about ebay and other user selling to user services.
