Forums - Sales Discussion - Hirai: Xbox "lacks longevity" and Wii doesn't count so PS3 will win.

Nintendo themselves have stated multiple times that they are not competing with MS or Sony.

If thats the case why should MS and Sony consider Nintendo a rival?

Ehm, let me see: cause a) it's "stealing" potential costumers and therefore loses marketshare and b) because it's "stealing" exclusives from them. Seems to me they are competing...

MH3, man on man it is going to be epic when the game does not sell the millions people expect on the Wii as MH has done on the PSP and then we see MH3G on PSP. Think we will see some suicides on this site, will not be to the level of the FFXIII on 360 announcement but still something special.

It's also something special to completely ignore the effect MH and DQ could have had on PS3 sales, if the series wouldn't have switched brand.

And I never seen anyone sane predicting millionS for MH3 (there maybe a CrazzyMan-like prediction floating around, but I don't think we should use statements of that kind of members to judge the expectations of any game on any console). I'm sure it will sell a million in Japan alone though. Which would be great, seeing the sales of the PS2 games. A PSP port is very probably, so I don't see the issue with that.

Monster Hunter 3? Dragon Quest X? And other games I could list.

Lots of Japanese games. Luckily for me: I HATE Japanese games. Never saw one I wanted to play.

Ouch. I on the other hand don't think I ever played a game developed outside Japan till I bought an xbox late 2004. I never bought a game on playstation developed outside Japan till this gen.

I am certainly not a Sony fan but it's funny to see Nintendo-fans going crazy over these "Wii is not a competitor" claims. It's like they have been waiting for their favourite company to come back on top for so long, and when this finally happens - nobody does seem to give a damn and just ignores it ..

Anyway, Kaz just says that he should.

I think you all miss the point here. PS3 is not competing with neither Xbox 360 nor Wii. Neither of them is a blu-ray player.

Hirai said that, regardless of install base, or who sold more and when, "I'd like to think that we continue official leadership in this industry."

Wow, and they wonder why they are coming in last this holidays season....

Well, I have no problems with that particular quote--I'm sure it's true, he'd like to think that.

Dear old Kaz. Flying in the face of reality yet again.
I'm glad he can keep his chin up in these times. Perhaps thats why the drool and slurring that usually occurs in such demented folks hasn't dribbled down the front of his straitjacket yet.

That said, I do admire his spirit.

Proud Sony Rear Admiral

God bless Sony. They give me always a smile.

  Unleash The Beast!

End of 2011 Sales: Wii = 90mil, 360 = 61mil, PS3= 60mil

Oh come on, this isn't any worse than what Nintendo did last gen.

Remember when Nintendo dropped from 199 dollars to 99 dollars? (I don't, I had no clue about sales or prices at the time).

They claimed "Nintendo is creditable for over 90% of the industry growth". It's true, but it's really spinning things.

And there's a lot of other scenarios.

The losing side almost always claim ridiculous things. I'm not sure of why, but it is so in several buisinesses (not a lot, mainly in electronics).
