Forums - Gaming Discussion - More Evidence that 1up is not biased against Nintendo

http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/dancedancerevolutionuniverse?q=dance%20dance%20revolution

Here is one of the few other singing/dancing games I can find that 1up reviewed at all. As you can see, they hated it -- they hated it a lot more than anyone else, in fact. And it's not for the Wii. For most games in this genre (Singstar and DDR being the two most obvious franchises) 1up doesn't even take the time to review them at all. There isn't a single 1up review for any Singstar game that I can see, although I'm sure I'm missing at least one buried in there.

I think, if anything, this shows that they simply hate this genre of games, not that they're specifically biased against Nintendo.

Hve you listened to their podcasts? I don't care what they say when they review a game, but it is clear that they do not like the Wii. They may make concessions along the way admitting that certain games are amazing, but for them the Wii is a serious step in the wrong direction of gaming. The 360 is the perfect step forward. I am not saying that this bias will affect their reviews of Wii games; I am just saying that there is little love between them and the waggle.

I agree.

I will add: their isn't a strong bias against Nintendo, the editors just don't like those types of games.

I really don't think editors from any major Website would risk credibility... even the one guy who rated Twilight Princess at Gamespot 8.8 is pretty justified. Looking backI can understand why he would rate it 8.8.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

I am one of the biggest Wii fans around, it doesn't bother me at all when people make fun of it or don't like it.  What bothers me is when people ignore the facts or suggest that I am stupid for liking it.  I haven't heard any of this from 1up, so I would go there if I liked the writing or if they had good news, but they don't so I am not there anyway.

I don't goto Destructoid as often because the site generally doesn't cover Wii that much.  I am not telling them to stop, but I don't go there as much as I used to.  I like Wii news and they don't cover it equally.  Other sites give me my PS3 and 360 news better than them anyway.

I do kind of see a bias against the Wii from the 1up writers and it strikes me as kind of odd because (at least on the 1up show) they really love the DS.

From this attitude (favoring the DS over the PSP) I thought for sure they'd be all over the Wii, but I guess they just like the casual stuff on handheld systems and not on home consoles. This makes sense, maybe they just want a more robust experience on consoles than they feel they're getting with the Wii.

Personally I think they're biased against Wii because it doesn't have very good games right now.

No shame in that imo.

That's really not fair. I own 5 Wii games and every one of them has been worth the time invesed into them so far (though I haven't myself touched TP...)

You do not have the right to never be offended.

I'm... not sure saying "See? They hated this game on Console A!" means they aren't biased against Console B.

I'm not saying 1up IS necessarily biased against Nintendo, but saying they hated a DDR game doesn't mean they are any nicer to Nintendo.

I'm not one to claim an entire company is against a certain console, but there are some people at 1up/EGM that have some sort of problem with Nintendo. As for Boogie, it's pretty big news in the game industry(original EA exclusive w/peripheral) and that's why it got reviewed. Anyone thinking that a game like Boogie(that never aspired to be anything but mediocre) getting a bad review is evidence of some bias is right: bias against games that obviously stink.
