Forums - Sony Discussion - Well I got "Home", and WOW

i love how everyone whines about Home. what did you expect from an open beta? jezz, give it some time. it hasn't been released even a week yet. i wonder how many people that b#&th and moan about Home even bought anything from the mall to support this fledgling free service. you don't like it then don't use it. pretty simple, huh?

Why don't you read what [url=http://kotaku.com/5106191/home-launches-on-december-11?skyline=true&s=x[Sony expects of Home[/url]:

PlayStation Home is exclusive to PS3, free to download and easy to join. It’s the ultimate online community – a place where you can meet friends, try the latest games, hear new music, watch videos, relax in the apartment of your dreams and much, much more.

And again, saying it's open beta is just a bad shield.

It's released to the public and it's released in a very bad state.

i never stated YOU said that in my reply so maybe you didn't read what i wrote. not that it matters, you obviously have your mind made up on the subject. just to let you know this isn't the only gaming forum on the interwebs so don't act like i don't hear the same ish everywhere else i go. your condescending attitude is not a forceful argument in itself. carry on.

Huh?

Like I said, Sony was the one touting PlayStation(R)Home as one of the big reasons why the PS3 was superior, and despite their bragging, it took them nearly two years AFTER BRAGGING to get a half-ass BETA released.  Yes, what I said is a fact... it's half-ass and incomplete.

It doesn't mean that HOME won't be great someday, it very well could be... but it's not great right now.

When we discuss this subject in THIS forum, I usually tell Sony Fanboys that while I do like my PS3, I still prefer my 360 because of XBOX Live, and those people tell me, "Hey man, just wait 'til they release HOME man, you ain't seen nothing yet".

I have rode on the fence for a long time, because Sony and their wonderful fanbase has been telling me (no, shoving down my throat) the idea that HOME will be the LIVE killer.  So, why after nearly two years am I still only getting a crap-BETA version if it is so great?  That's all I am asking.

I swear that Sony's nickname should be the "someday" company.  The PS3 will sell big "someday" (read: 10-year plan here), the PSN will be a great service "someday"... That's all that Sony is this generation, a company that continues to advertise what they will be, and conveniently ignore the here and now.

Sweet my office firewall isn't blocking this site! While, I agree with the fact that it is a very barebones rather underwhelming launch for Sony.  I don't get the utter resentment by alot of people for this application. To tell you the truth I was rather non-plussed by it myself, but I am still going to support it in hopes it will get better as there is more corporate support and user revenue.  The whole ranting and raving about Home just smacks of spoiled, jaded gamer to me.  I guess I wasn't expecting much from the open beta since I read enough about it before hand (not implying you didn't) to know it was going to be rather weak.  I guess I expected little and wasn't that shocked and disappointed when I finally installed it on Thursday and checked it out with a friend online.  Meh, I know that some people were expected some kind of second coming but I think that those people were ill-informed and unrealistic.

Right... like I said, it may be great one day, but thus far I think Sony just layed another egg by releasing a BETA for a product that is not even good enough to call "incomplete".

I would have never said two words about the product, but Sony is the one who has been hyping this thing... not me.

They told me at E3 (just shy of two years ago) that HOME would be the great community experience that made the Sony PSN the console community to beat.  That sounds wonderful, but two years of promises is just a little ridiculous.  At the rate they are going, this community is going to roll into their "10-year plan" like every other aspect of this console.

Why, when Sony was so friggin' awesome last generation, can they not seem to get anything right or on-time this generation?   All they do is talk about the "future" of the PS3, and yet this "future" never seems to arrive... they always push it off to a later date.  A good example is the latest watered-down release of Gran Turismo.  Why even release it at all if it isn't really a completed product?  The next GT is supposedly going to be what GT Prologue wasn't, so why didn't they just wait then?

The point is, as a PS3 owner, I get tired of always being told by a company that I have dropped un-godly amounts of money into that "someday" they'll justify my purchase of their console with these great "future" features that never arrive (or if they do, they are only half-ass).  When does that day arrive?  At the rate they are going, they won't hit their goals until I buy my Wii-HD and XBOX 720, at which point it will be too late anyway.

This is the truth though. I used to try and defend Home but what they waited 2 years to release isn't above what we expected it to be (as you would expect after 2 years) but its much much less. No game launching for all games, no TV's in the apartment, only two game spaces.

That being said, I think Sony just wanted to give the public something after two years and are still testing some other finished portions of Home not yet released.  I also think they wanted to create some new revenue whereever they can get it from. Lastly, I think they just wanted to get the damn thing released so they can start with something to improve upon with a large base to feedback from.

What they released definitely lacks in many ways, but I think the finished product with all of the before promised features (if they can ever get them to work properly/legally) will be very good.

I think I speak for all PS3 owners when I say that our standards are lower than you XBots, so leave us alone!! We bought the more expensive machine, with sub par performance because we like blindly following Sony. Sony said Home is the sh*t so we believe it!

We didn't buy a machine full of power, we bought a machine full of POTENTIAL and thats what Home is POTENTIAL. Sure it may never live up to the hype, but thats what us Sony Fanboys do best HYPE. HYPE Killzone 2, HYPE HYPE HYPE HYPE ......and a little more HYPE....don't forget more POTENTIAL...nothing now...but lots of POTENTIAL...and a little more HYPE. Hey don't forget KillHype 2!!!! oh and yeah did I say POTENTIAL.

I'm going to go to the bathroom now, this stomach pain has lots of POTENTIAL.

The worst part of this is that Sony could have put all the money they spent on HOME into something useful like UI research for their XMB/PSN Store, better software BC for old 80Gb owners, licenses for more playable file formats, and lots more.

Stupid database errors...

Its fun to go Home now and then ,some of the games are fun (pool, chess, bowling) and you meet people there but its just that ,an extra for the console to meet people and have some kind of communication people shouldnt be expecting much more.

New rooms and features will be added as time goes by,so the new content will keep attracting people.

I hope many new games get their own Room in Home ,and two features would definitely make me spend time with Home .First ,that Trophies would transform in real currency to spend on the mall ...and have a 3D representation of those Trophies in your apartment. And second ,I expect to have the Sony conferences of GDC ,E3 ,TGS and Leipzing streamed directly into Home and people to be able to look at those and share their feelings with the other users .
