Does anyone really know what the supposed plans for this game are?  Are they actually going to make it as massive and dynamic as GT3?  Considering it is going to be released a year from now, I'd have to assume some details have been leaked out, or are they waiting for E3?

So far, we haven't seen anything of the game, but I believe it's due to the damage model Polyphony Digital wants to implement into the game, I think they are still working on that very hard, and they have had problems with Ferrari not alowing their cars to have damage in GT5.

Knowing Kazunori Yamauchi and how he is a perfectionist, we can expect a game as massive as Gran Turismo 3, hopefully.

That would be nice, I still remember how excited I was when I first turned on GT3.  I swear that my friends and I played that game for 18 hours straight the first day.

Haha, that's alot of time on one session! But did you happen to play the previous games before GT3? Becasue I have played GT games since the first one, and that damn series has absorbed +500 hours of my life, I am well sure that I played GT4 for +200 hours, but can't really remember the other ones very well, but I know each is definitely +100 hours.

Yeah I did... I actually bought the original PlayStation right when they came out.  Everyone was like, what the hell kind of game system is that?

I've always been a Sony product loyalist, but I will certainly say that this generation console PS3 is most disappointing to me thus far.  I just haven't really found what makes my PS3 so special... Hopefully GT5 is THE game that reveals the true capabilities of the cell processor technology in the console...

This is part of a car list from Gtplanet about the cars that will be in the final version.
http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=86724

There has been many mentions of car damage in GT5, but some car companies want no damage, some are fine with part damage but no rollovers, some are fine with full damage but with no car rollovers, then some are fine with everything. They have said they are still trying to get all on board, they also said they want to do the damage right if it is included.

I'm pretty sure they have mentioned a weather system. In an interview from 07, they said the game will also have all the cars and tracks from GT4.

They also take pictures of inside the trunks and pics of the engines for the cars, they also record interior sounds when turning the highbeams on. So these all may play a part in the game.

@griffin

I also read a report (possibly a rumor) recently, that they are going to update GT5:P with weather and damage sometime in the spring/summer, so I'm fairly sure there is weather, and it looks like they almost have everyone's agreement on damage.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Well that's good to know, certainly will be a welcome feature.

I'm sure that they are trying keep it mum if they can, because MS Studios is likely to copy some of the ideas and add them to Forza 3 (and vice versa)

What I don't understand is the damage issue.  Forza 2 incorporates damage with all of the manufacturers cars, so why is it such a big deal for GT5 to have damage?

Polyphony Digital receives the rights to use the cars in GT for free.  The makers of Forza and other car games pay for the rights to use them.  I'm not sure how much damage they are allowed to do with the payed contracts but i doubt its very extensive.

This is true.  The success of GT has actually lead to increased sales of some cars (it actually lead to some cars only sold in Japan making their way over to the states), and manufacturers look upon the series as free advertising.

And I'm pretty sure Forza and the like don't have ener the selection of cars that GT does.  From what I understand, GT5 will have over 700 cars, a couple hundred more than GT4.
