Forums - Sony Discussion - Planning to buy a PS3 – A few questions

Hi, everybody. As some people already know, I’m going to travel to the USA in January and I plan on buying a PS3. However, there a few things I don’t know and buying abroad (this will be the first time I travel to another country) is always more complicated than at your own country and I was hoping some of you could help me.

Also, with the price of the dollar currently rising against my country’s currency, I probably will only be able to buy the PS3 and maybe a game. So, I want to get the best possible deal.

Here are my questions (a lot of them, sorry):

1)      Are there bundles at Wal-Mart, Best Buy, etc. (like to get the PS3 with a game or an extra controller for 399 dollars)? These will be my main stores to look for it because they appear to be everywhere in the US.

2)      Do stores like Wal-Mart, Best Buy, etc. sell cheaper used games?

3)      Are the taxes in Florida (that’s where I’m going) 7% of everything I buy?

4)      Do all those stores have PSN cards for sale?

5)      Does the PS3 come with a headset? If not, can you recommend a cheap one?

6)      Does the PS3 come with any demo or PSN game already on the HDD?

7)      Is there a lot of people still playing Warhawk (like anytime I try I will find hundreds of people playing it)? I really want to play this game. Especially since it’s cheaper now and will give hours and hours of fun, since it will be awhile before I can get another game.

8)      Does anyone know any good router (cheap, cheap, cheap) that works well with the PS3?

If you can help me even with just one of those questions, it will be a great help and I’ll really appreciate it.

Thanks to everybody in advance.

PS – If anyone knows of any good deal or good store around the Kissimmee, Florida area , please let me know, because that is where I will be staying. Thanks again.

don't buy it at wal-mart, wal-mart doesn't sell warranties. if it breaks, you just wasted $400. i recommend buying it at bestbuy with a 2 year warranty, the warranty costs $100 i believe, but its worth it because its not a repair warranty, its a replacement warranty. which means if your ps3 breaks for some reason, u just return it to any bestbuy, and they give u a brand new ps3 right off the store shelf, no hastle and waiting for it to be send and returned fixed, just bring in the broken one, the controller and the plugs to geek squad, and they give u a new ps3

florida sales tax is 6%. yes bestbuy does sell PSN cards

only the MGS4 bundle comes with a headset, its $500, but the problem isn't the price. no store ever have them in stock cause they always sell out.

u can get a headset for like $15, any headset that works for ps2 will also work for da ps3. bestbuy should have some in stock

a good router will be a linksys N+ router, i wouldn't be cheap on this part. if your cheap on this part it will come and bite you in the behind, you have a cheap router, you have a bad connection, it would become very annoying. trust me, i learn this one the hard way

I can't get the warranty, because I am going to buy it in the US, but I am going back to Brazil with it. So there is no way for me to bring it back to the store. Unless they have a way for me to send it to them and they send a new one back. Though, it will probably take a freaking long time.

I have heard a few people say otherwise, but Sony hardware has always been realiable to me. PS1, PS2, a couple of walk-man, they all lasted a long time, working perfectly and I treated them all vey badly (neve cleaning, dropping them on the ground a few times). So, I am just going to trust Sony one more time.

Thanks, man. It is nice to know that any headset works. Makes things a bit cheaper. :D

The best headset is the one you get with SOCOM Confrontation I think. Its made by Sony and should be compatible with all new games

I have heard about it, but since I am going to be tight on money and I am not that into SOCOM, I probably won't get it.

But, thanks anyway for the help.
