Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Let's be honest, The Conduit is going to suck.

And when it flops, Wii will be a laughing stock, people will point and say "see that's why there are no hardcore games on Wii" and publishers are going to be even more cautious about big-budget games for our little white console.  Whose fault is this?

Yours.  You decided to hold one single game up as our only hope of FPS gaming.  You decided to talk about The Conduit as if it were the next Half Life or Gears of War.

Just sober up for a second, stop looking at the screenshots, and consider who is making this game.

Here's a list of AAA games High Voltage has made:

Here's a list of FPS games High Voltage actually made original content for:

HVS makes bad games, not the worst - I'm sure they're one or two steps above shovelware, but they're bad.

And yes, it's true they're making an honest attempt to become a legit gaming company.  They've done some great things graphically and control-wise. They're putting their hearts into this game, but come on, it's their first real try, and putting all of your Wii hopes into this one game is RETARDED.

Not convinced?  Consider the latest hands-on preview:

Our beef? That it plays like a glorified tech demo.

A corridor facility that culminates in our hero, Mr. Ford, delivering some gun justice to explosive barrels. Once more with feeling: explosive barrels.

Hell, even Samus’ dull bit – the genero Olympus – had the decency to give us space battles to watch through the windows. There are no windows in corridor world.

...level design that would make Doom 64 snicker.

Save your hopes for when Valve decides to do that Wii project.   We all know this platform has everything needed to create the best console FPS, just don't judge it by an over-hypped, cliche-ridden game from an unknown developer.

YOU'RE the reason that the Great Pumpkin didn't come to see me this year!! You need a more positive attitude!

Imagine how much ridicule PS3 fanboys could have avoided if they never talked about Lair.

Hyping it is just going to make it worse.

Why do people have this crazy idea in their head that once a company makes a crap game, they can never make a good one, or that if they make a good one they can never do any harm.

It is a company, and there could be completely different people working there now. Not only that, HVS has said they want to bring the best possible experience they can. So stop looking at past performance, when the game looks like it is shaping up nicely.

Not only that, your hands on comments are useless. I can't list how many times I've seen sites hype up a game saying it plays awesome, only to turn around and review it poorly. The exact opposite can happen too.

Now, that doesn't mean the game won't suck, but I refuse to pass judgment either way before the game actually hits the shelves.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

I am still buying this game. Unless IGN and other notable reviewers give it a piss poor reception, its going to be a great game.

If anything, it will provide a solid base for other Wii devs.

well wii isn't getting doom this time around either :(

It's pretty funny because your argument for "The Conduit is going to suck" is linking to a preview of someone who actually liked the game, but had a few gripes about the level design only.

The Conduit is going to ROCK.

Even if The Conduit sucks wildebeast balls, I'm going to buy it and tell everyone it tastes like grape Kool-Aid! It may very well suck, but (like Perfect Dark Zero) Wii owners NEED this game to be good. It's one of the few times that a 3rd party has tried to push the Wii in it's 2year existence. We don't want to scare away the other 3rd parties from trying.

I can see that.  They're one of the few devs doing serious engine work for Wii, and those control tweaks with calibration?  That has to be used for other games.

I just want people to temper their expectations.   Lair, hyped up game with awesome screenshots.  8-30-07.  Never forget.

You should have read the entire preview:

Of course, this is easy to change and – as we mentioned – we’ve only played one level.

And you didn't post the parts where they praised the game.
