Shipped number can be number shipped out from the factory (equals number of manufactured) or it can be the number shipped to importers or it can be the number shipped to retailers. Sold number can be number sold to importers or it can be number sold to retailers or it can be number sold to consumer. As you can see, shipped and sold can mean the same thing in cases when they want to point out the number delivered to importers or to retailers. The number what VGChartz is tracking is sold to consumer and the number, what console manufacturers announce, is number of consoles manufactured or number of consoles shipped/sold to importers or number of consoles shipped/sold to retailers. I made an estimation a couple of weeks ago, where i estimated that about half of the manufactured PS3:s haven't been sold, and it looks like (with the 6M number) that i was pretty close.

Don't you just love thread number 346 about Sony's financial numbers? Especially since you see tons of links to all sorts of gaming sites talking about 4.48M sold, while that number is not even correct. It just shows a lot of those crappy sites don't do their own research and just copy paste (in this case wrong) information from other sites.

I dont think the thread was made as fanboy bait or for flaming purposes, just think he was trying to understand why we have it listed higher, im sure he'll know now.

i guess that guy is still using sonys old method of reporting figures....so we know how many units sony MADE between april and june now....0.5mil to add to the previous 5.5. also someone is getting confused about where Q1 is for sony, Q1 just finished in june didnt it, so we are in Q2 now. [despite it being the years Q3...and more irritatingly, MSofts Q1]
