NOTES:

* It seems like, with a few exceptions, 360 & PS3 games have no legs compared to the Wii & DS. Is this more because 1) The HD fan bases are more intent on buying games early? 2) Nintendo owners are more budget conscious, and so buy fewer games per month, dragging out the sales cycles of better games? 3) Releases for HD consoles grow stale more quickly? 4) Fewer good new releases for Nintendo systems force owners to buy older games instead? Or are there other factors?

* Madden All-Play for the Wii not only didn't open as strongly as its competitors, but it's clearly being out-legged, too. Given Wii's install base advantage in North America and the fact that Madden All-Play was billed as being the full game + additional modes, this has to be seen as something of a problem. Is this simply because Madden-philes from last generation have migrated to the HD consoles en masse? Is the All-Play marketing to blame? Or something else?

* Even taking into account Japan, where it competes, there is no competition between the DS and PSP. But then, on this Legs List, there's no competition at all for the DS from any system. Consider Nintendogs: in its 186th week of release, it sells more than any PS3 or 360 game on this list, including Grand Theft Auto 4, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Halo 3. How long will it take the new top titles, like Fable 2, Gears of War 2, or LittleBigPlanet to drop underneath Nintendogs? I don't know, but does anyone doubt that it's going to happen? Incredible.

Around the Network

OMG!!!!

the Imagine series is HUGE!!

I'm serious! Didn't knew that.. millions are sold!! and vgchartz are undertracking a lot of them!!

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

How about you do a list without bundled games

There's also 360 and ps3 bundled games. So you should take Lego Indiana Jones, Kung Fu Panda, and GT5 out.

Because there are fewer games of quality in my opinion... People buy a wii and almost automatically end up with wii sports, wii play, mario kart and eventually wii fit. its just how it is. In fact many of the new gamers that wii have attracted wont buy anything else.

Would you argue the same is true for the DS?

Nintendo games in general sell a ton more than anything else. They always have - it's hard to spin it any other way when they completely dominate the all time best selling lists.

@matt247: Nice, I see where you're going

OT: The Madden thing has been discussed before, many other threads. I think it's pretty simple - Sports (football especially) seem to favor the HD demographic. In fact, the first thing that comes to mind when I think of HDTV's being advertised is sports. The realism is more important than any intuitive controls the Wii may have to offer.
