With the gap smaller by 1.2 million in 3/4 year it will take another 4 years or so till the PS3 takes the lead. By which time the next-gen consoles will already be out from atleast 1 team.

Also, I'm expecting X360 to have a bigger holiday-season this year then the PS3. Why?!:

1) People that buy gifts for Santa Claus and Christmas tend to buy consoles for their children. They see X360 vs PS3 and will pick X360 because of their wallets! Especially during holiday season this plays a big role and 360 has the big advantage there! (I'm talking parents buying a console for children)... And don't forget; X360 is cheaper then Wii!

2) From the preliminary data it shows that Gears of War 2 is selling like hotcakes whilst Resistance 2 and LBP pale in comparison... They are not doing bad, great actually, but if you compare to Gears 2 they fail to be the system-seller a lot of people expected them to be! Whilst Gears 2 is pumping up X360 sales and will keep the momentum going in November for the system!

3) Half of the stuff the PS3 narrowed down from X360's lead was in Japan... And since a month or 2, PS3 started to suck too in Japan! Okay, it got a small bump since LBP and GTA4 got released (from 5k to 25k and now back to 16~k if you should believe the prelim) but nowadays it's almost a flat tie between X360 and PS3... And with White Knight Chronicles having less pre-orders then Last Remnant I honestly don't know if the gap will remain as big as it was earlier this year (in favour of the PS3).

 

If both consoles keep performing (somewhere around) these sales they have been doing for the last year and the coming Christmas I don't think the PS3 has enough time to inhale the X360... Although the gap will remain the same or become a little smaller (depends on this holiday-season. But I'm expecting the X360 to win it. By an XXX margin that should put them right back where they starter in Januari 08 = 6~ million?~?)

The hardware numbers/software numbers posted for the Xbox 360 do not indicate a declining platform.

I would pick 2009 as the high-water mark for the Xbox 360 in terms of sales at least at this point, unless Microsoft manages to find a way to boost the console once more.
