Forums - Sales Discussion - If LittleBigPlanet Sales Are Not That Great What Does It Mean For PS3?

I would like to think LBP can sell outside PS3's fanbase, but I'm being to think it will not do what Sony intended. =/

The Interweb is about overreaction, this is what makes it great!

...Imagine how boring the interweb would be if everyone thought logically?

I expect it to follow the same pattern that Uncharted did. First week bombed, but sales definitely picked up over time with word of mouth. This kind of game will definitely have some legs.

It wasnt even officially released and it did better than Uncharteds first week but i agree hopefully it will have good legs.

stop basing off of WEEK 0 sales

all i know is the people who own it are going to have a blast. if sony just friggen advertised this game more in america...

I hear a lot of people saying that LBP is going to sell massive. See a lot of people putting their faith into the title as the next great IP. See that the creators have already stated they are working on selling content and even talking about a sequel. So all in all before we have the numbers the general census is that LBP has done very well.

BUT

What if it hasen't? As others have mentioned we have seen this before a few times and in the 2nd week sales (proper week sales) it has been only an increase of 100k at most. Point being if LBP sales lets say 250k next week and you add that to the 150k this week would 400k in nearly 2 weeks really be seen as a success for the PS3? Would that put the console back on the path to competing with the 360 and Wii?

Or would it just mean Resistance 2 would then get the hype treatment from the Sony camp?

LBP will sell lots dont you worry about that, i dont expect it to do mgs4 numbers str8 away, but over time it will be continiously purchased.

another point is that argubly, LBP is a better game than anything on 360 and wii this year

another point is that PS3 has had the better games all year

stop trolling and trying to make people flame at you.

but what if your wrong? what will you do then?

 Obviously touched a soft spot?

Firstly im not trolling, i own all three consoles and support each console. I paid money for them all. That i think entitles me to be unbiased.

Secondly it is a legit question. Every person and every publication including this website have talked about how amazing LBP is. More so then i have seen any other game. Add to this mix there are people such as yourself who obviously are raging PS3 fanboys (the whole PS3 has the best games statement gave it away) who see it being this megaton A++ game..

I have not yet played LBP as it is not out here yet. I will pick it up and judge on my own merits. Because i don't look to the review score to see if i will buy a game or not. The only review that matters is my own and because of that i have probably enjoyed more games then you have. But hey i already said i didn't think it would sell well in Japan, i said it wasen't a Japanese style game. But were see won't we.

I'm have a ps3, I didn't get LBP because I don' like platformers. I think LBP would have fared much better on wii, because it looks to be better than mario and all the platformer fans tend to play mario.

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

Nothing, the game will still get a sequel, PS3 sales will be about the same and regardless of how well it sells fans of the system will shortly move on to the next game of choice.

Remember how excited people were about Fable 2 sales and how a week later their attention had already shifted to Fallout 3?

Even if sales are a disappointment to certain users it should at least break 1 million worldwide by end of Christmas so Sony will at worst break even on the deal.

we still have 9 copies in (thought it was 8... but I missed one) no one has came in a bought one since first day

The thing about LittleBigPlanet, that makes it different from SO many other games out there, is that it REALLY IS as good as everyone hoped. It starts out good, and then you dive into another aspect of the game, and IT'S STILL GOOD. And then another, and STILL it's everything you imagined. LBP is a game that continuously gets better as your explore it more. Add a second or third player, and suddenly the game is immense fun. Playing around with the levels is great, and even better (again) with more people.

This is a game that, when I first started playing it, I was thinking "oh no... this game just isn't what everyone had hoped," kinda like Spore. But then you quickly begin to realize how amazing the game really is. There is, essentially, no reason for this game NOT to do spectacularly other than pure lack of knowledge of its existence.

Wow, that sounded a lot more fanboyish than I thought. Oh well, the game really does live up to expectations, so there's nothing for PS3 fans to hide.
