Forums - Sales Discussion - Buying LBP will move the industry forward?

You totally should.
I created an Official LBP page btw, where we will host tournaments, share textures, discuss level design, have a league, rate each other's levels and so on! It is going to be amazing....

Shane is right. The industry in so many ways is becoming so stale. FPS after FPS, and sadly no REAL innovation to them. We need Publishers to wake up and allow developers to try new things. All console supporters should hope that LBP does well. If it does it will encourage Publishers to take notice and push more for innovation instead of playing it safe. PC gaming has had the advantage of user created material for years and that has been one of the defining differences between the two experiances. All types of games can benfit from the success of LBP. Shooters included.

Hey, maybe if it sells really well it can clear the game for future Tim Schafer games to kick ass sales-wise. When he says "move forward" he means to open up the biz to new ideas and perhaps break some genre conventions. You know, mix things up a bit.

You know what is funny for me?

Previously, to answer the question "if you only had 60 bucks this holidays season..." he just said:

"Wii Music all the way"... and everybody had a big laughter.

But then he gave his answer:"...No if I think if I had to buy a game personally that I was going to play for myself for the next 18 months or whatever it will have to be Gears of War 2 (...) That's the game I would choose.

Only then he says: "If there's a game I wish everybody would buy its Little Big Planet because  it's gonna move the industry forward"

He seems to be saying "No, I am too hardcore to play that casual crap... everyone else should buy LBP so the industry move forward and I can keep playing my Gears of War 2"

i find it amusing how they call it gaming 3.0

If the economy is shaky and this game is selling for $60 along with a console that sells for $400 (which is a stripped down console with none of the features everyone wants = B/C), I don't think people are going to buy into this deal of a game. The bundle will be good, but no, people won't buy the system just for this game.

There's nothing innovative about LBP, it's creative not innovative. That's what this game is about. You make your own levels (which could take hours) and run through them in several minutes...hm, sounds like a lot of fun to me. But yeah, this game just has creativity written all over it, nothing special, along with fun. Something that's innovative will have to be something that's never been done before. The only innovative system out on the market with innovative games is the Wii. The hardware has to be innovative so that the games are innovative. The PS3 is just an upgrade of the PS2 with games. Sure Okami was innovative on the PS2, but we're talking about a generation later with a game that goes against Mario and Sonic (platforming and side-scrolling) with a level editor and customizing. Nothing else.

I don't think this game... especially one game... can move the industry forward. Although I would say that Brain Training has moved the industry forward but it had later reenforcement with established franchises and then later the Wii series so I can't give it all the credit.

Really I just can't see how it'll move the industry forward because it's not something that fits that Blue Ocean strategy that detailed something. It doesn't destroy mindsets or previous stereotypes and replace it with a new one. It settles in with something that is already there. While things like Brain Training have broken mindsets and stereotypes and expanded the industry.

But hey I could be wrong. Could be like Guitar Hero or Brain Training.

If this game sells, and it probably will, then publshers will be pushing for more creative games.

LBP might be innovative for the HD consoles but thats about it. How can one game move the industry forward? Do these people trawl the internet for hours looking for positives for LBP? Lets face it. It's just 1 game. Thats all it is.

In my opinion the N64 was not just the best console of the 5th gen but, to this day the best console ever created!

right now the industry its moved by FPS.

they are good but they are too many of them that an original LBP gets huge score are reviews its impressive, if sell more brilliant ideas will come after it.
