Forums - Sales Discussion - Buying LBP will move the industry forward?

First of all check this out

http://www.gametrailers.com/bonusround.php?ep=27&pt=4

Video is intersting and all, I am just not sure I got something. You see, this guy Shane Satterfield at some point says something like " I wish everybody would buy Little big planet, BECAUSE it will move the industry forward"

What?

And what if it is a huge failure? The industry will slow down or crash?

What the person in question was reffering to is if games such as little big planet which are creative and original are awarded good sales then more and more developers might be willing to try something new and innovative instead of making generic fps after generic fps. Many developers can't make the projects they want to make because publishers are afraid to publish new ideas. So yea, obviously if an original game with fresh ideas sells well the industry is going in the right direction. No, if LBP fails, the industry dusn't fail. But I guarantee you even more publishers will be warry of publishing new original games which stunts growth in the gaming industry.

I agree with what Shane said.

He's right because Little Big Planet is the only original game this generation.

That video was a bit boring because half the show you have Pachter saying Guitar Hero will be bigger than Rock Band 2 but the 2 MTV guys are trying to defend Rock Band...

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

"but the 2 MTV guys are trying to defend Rock Band"

One of the guys is an editor for gametrailers, the other is Jeff Gertsman from Giantbomb.com. They don't work for MTV.

As for LBP, I hope it does sell. The industry won't implode if it does not, but it is a original idea, and the first real big game for user generated content on a console

I wasn't talking about the ex-Gamespot guy. I was talking about the host and the Gametrailers editor. Gametrailers is owned by MTV.
