Really, who DOES Sony have? They have Heavenly Sword, the other launch title which really remains that, “That other launch title.”

We are talking about 10 years into the future now. Many of these consoles are becoming so much like a PC why not just buy a PC anyway. PS3 will last 10 years for sure however i doubt the 360 will. The Wii who knows :S

A quick summary, most of the paragraphs are just useless text that sometimes hardly make any sense, but here goes:

Nintendo always had and probably always will have the family friendly image, Sega became successful because they marketed their console (Genesis) as being cooler as Nintendo's. This brought them success among young males, mostly teenagers.

Sony copied Sega's strategy and took it a step further, since gamers had aged they were also able to reach young adult males. Nintendo kept its family friendly image and a large enough market while Sega wasn't cool anymore and saw its sales shrinking drastically.

Then came Microsoft and copied Sony's strategy (which was previously Sega's) and now the box is the cool system. While the first Xbox failed somewhat in that regards because it came out too late after the PS2, the PlayStation 3 isn't as cool anymore as Sony's consoles used to be, especially because most of its games can also be found on the 360.

So the author of the article asks what Sony's fate may be. They aren't cool anymore and they for sure don't have the same image as Nintendo. Of course his observation largely applies to the American market.

Can’t you summarise it even more :P

j/k..  thanks!

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

Wow you guys think that was long?

Wow...

Anyway good read for the first half, the rest seemed pretty biased though.

Sony is currently out pacing Microsoft so the sales numbers don't support the logic of the last 3 paragraphs.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

The Official Huge Monster Hunter Thread:

The Hunt Begins 4/20/2010 =D

I can not, for the life of me, figure out how this sentence makes any sense:

"Now we’re entering into the current generation. Nintendo dominates the market ever so slightly less every day while Microsoft’s prestige grows and grows as more developers are getting curious."

What? Aren't more developers getting curious and interested in the Wii as time goes on? Isn't the Wii gaining more marketshare every month?

ROFL. I fully agree. And how the hell are we "Entering" the "CURRENT" generation??!  XD....

Thanks you soo much ^_^.

But a few things bug me....

Judging by sales overall this year the PS3 would be considered "Cooler than the 360", it's taking a massive price cut just to get the 360 higher for nearly 2 months...

A large part of SONY's strategy was not just the cool Image that was done by SEGA aswell, but also expanding the market to different regions that didn't have console sales going on I believe, right???

SEGA mainly went for cool, SONY's been doing both hardcore and casuall quite well. [IMO]

MS took the SEGA/SONY Strategy [as we are calling it] and also quite a few main exclusives, most of this was done in their second Consoles time, SONY did it to a less extent and with the first Playstation console.

Pre-360 recent price cut this september, SONY was pretty much topping MS in sales nearly everywhere except America, where they've been selling pretty much equally.....

These are just thoughts... nothing too important....

*Stab* flamebait trolling woo

Yeah, he's talking about the American market. The PS3 is getting slaughtered there, so the whole "cooler than the PS3" does make a bit more sense that way. Although, he then talks about the Wii losing dominance when it's still hard to find here... not to mention his logic sucks.

I'm also a bit of a slow reader. What a waste of time

@Dgc1808

As I said, a lot of this ridiculously long blog post doesn't make much sense if any at all and the author probably looks at this from a pure American market perspective.

You mean as in, it's better to always look at it from the Down Under perspective?
