It is debateable what effect the rumors had. No doubt many were expecting RE4 to move GCNs, but not long after the announcement, Sony fanboys insisted Capcom was lying about it's console exclusivity. They said, because the PS2 would sell so much more than the Cube that Capcom was sure to bring it over. While they were wrong about Capcom lying - the intent was to keep it exclusive - RE4 failed to sell many Cubes, and its overall sales were disappointing, especially given it's GOTY credentials (sales were also disappointing for RE Remake and RE Zero). So, shortly after (before?) it's release, Capcom decided to put RE4 on the PS2 (which Nintendo fanboys and many gaming sites thought impossible).

Now, the question is why didn't RE4 do well on the Cube. It could just be that RE, having watered down its reputation with too many sequels and side projects on too many consoles, simply didn't have the Killer App pull people expected. Could be that Nintendo gamers didn't have as much interest as the die hards hoped (witness the crash and burn of Eternal Darkness). But some people believe that RE4 disappointed on the Cube because everyone believed it was going to the PS2 (which, for some reason, many believed more powerful than the Cube, which shows you how little they really knew) and so chose to simply wait rather than grab a second console. This, I imagine, is why so many PS3 fans are reluctant to acknowlege the timed exclusivity of UT3 and Haze, and will not acknowlege even a small potential of truth to any rumor of FF13 or MGS4 hopping to the 360.


 You are leaving out a part.  RE4 PS2 was announced BEFORE The GC version was released.  Right before, in fact.  In Nov. 2004, when the Game was released in January.

 

Wasn't sure about that, which is why I put "before" in parentheses with a "?". Thanks for the correction.

It's on the RE4 Wiki. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resident_Evil_4 Given how much this page has been edited, and how fiercely competitive and petty gamers can be, the fact that this doesn't appear to be a debated point would lend credit to its accuracy.

It's been confirmed many times as exclusive. I was thinking it would end up not being exclusive, but now it looks like it will be exclusive.

Nintendo fanboys want revenge on Sony and M$ fanboys want revenge on Sony. The media wants to get more hits. This OXM came out before E3.

this is like going to a baseball game with your buddies and calling a homerun before evey pitch. Yeah, youll probably eventually get it right, but having to hear it before every pitch kinda dilutes the "calling" it and makes you want to drill a hole in your eyeball with a screwdriver.

We are seeing less 3rd party exclusives its obviously plausible, but what ISNT plausible is the reasons and "sources" that keep getting mentioned, its one thing to assume that, yes logically the game may go multiplat but to create false "sources" of seperate production teams and whatnot is just stupid. As long as its exclusive for 8 months to a year and it isnt confirmed multiplat within those 8 months thats all that matters from a sales standpoint.

I heard from 8 credible sources that MGS 4 will remain exclusive forever. That's good enough for me.

 

Edit:  Oops, I forgot to mention I mean PS3-only, because of the delusionals (johnlucas) that believe it will not come out on PS3 at all.

I don't see how the game can be coming to the 360 unless it is on 3+ discs, i thought the game was going to be 50gb. The game is also going to be 1080p 7.1 sound from what i heard, can the 360 do that. I understand they use compression to get games downsized but how far can they shrink a game, plus when they downsize all the files will they still be as good.

I know nothing about files and all that so don't flame if i'm wrong.
