Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Silicon Knights files lawsuit against Epic?

Man, the problems never cease with Too Human. It kind of looked like a futuristic Matrix when I saw it on G4 a long time ago with it's sword and gun play (I've never played the DMC games so that's why).

Maybe they've been having troubles, I can believe that, but I've seen nothing but complaining and stuff coming from the game and developers. I'm not liking them after they butchered Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes for me. I thought they took it way farther than it had to be by adding all these bullet time and Matrix like similarities in almost every cut-scene. Solid Snake may be cool, but a more realistic port without their 'flare' to the cut-scenes would have been better. Solid Snake is a bad***, but not because he can dodge every bullet, do backflips, dodge missles by jumping off from them, ect. . .

*edit* this is interesting from 1up.

"Consequently, Silicon Knights did exactly as was rumored: they dropped Unreal Engine 3. Instead, they decided to focus on developing their own tech., dubbed "the Silicon Knights engine." As the game was built upon Epic-produced code, there are still pieces of Unreal Engine 3 in there, but Silicon Knights says that will no longer be the case when Too Human is finished and Silicon Knights should have all rights to the new engine."

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they have their own engine when they were first making the game, but then when having issues with performance and such (as well as being criticized at E3), switch to the Unreal Engine? This is all weird.

If they just did their own damn work in the first place this wouldn't be a problem. Though if the lack of support is true I can understand where they're coming from. Have we heard anything from any other devs about probs with Epic or UE3? I don't remember hearing anything.

This will just be their excuse to delay the game again i'm sure... i'm getting tired of this, Too Human better be a bloody good game, but it seems to be turning out like 'just another shooter'.

This is from the gamestop coverage,

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6175386.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=newstop&tag=newstop;title;1

"The suit accuses Epic of a number of misdeeds, including fraud, negligent misrepresentation, intentional interference with contractual obligations, breach of warranty, and unjust enrichment. Silicon Knights is seeking to have the contract between itself and Epic Games declared null and void and be refunded all of the money it spent to license Unreal Engine 3. The developer also wants to be awarded punitive damages for the offenses it alleges Epic committed. Finally, the studio is asking that Epic be forced to surrender all profits garnered by Gears of War as a result of misconduct."

I thought they had given up on Too Human (hiatus) and began work on Eternal Darkness 2 for the Wii? Or was that just a rumor?

Oh well, its not uncommon to expect this kind of conduct from sloppy North American Developers.

well i think too human will end up on a next gen console lol

ps1 to gamecube to xbxo360 to ???

There may or may not be a case. An intersting thing on these stores is that they're saying that Epic had their own version of the Unreal Engine that they used on Gears while supplying developers with a toned down version of the engine so Gears will look amazing compared to the other games.

either that or else they just know how to use the engine correctly...

Well Sony is getting Epic to optimise the engine farther on the PS3 but thats besides the point. EA merged the UE3 with their own engine.

I still say that devs need to take it upon themselves and modify the engine provided to their needs. Epic can modify their engine however they need to as they have to with all the new PC parts being released.

All I know is I doubt Epic is going to lose this. I can see Mark Rein laughing his ars off right now at this.
