Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Silicon Knights files lawsuit against Epic?

http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=14759

No word on what it is about but it would seem logical to assume it has something to do with Too Human which uses UE3. Could this be the reason for no Too Human showing at E3?

I was just about to post this. It would've been a much more colorful title, something like, "Big Breasted Soldiers Begin Epic Lawsuit."

It turns heads.

Statement from Denis Dyack.

"We stand behind everything in our complaint and believe it is highly unfortunate that Epic forced us into this situation. We would rather spend our time focusing on making great games, but as stated in our complaint, Epic simply refuses to acknowledge the inadequacies of the Unreal Engine 3 code it provides to its licensees," he said, "and refuses to accept the fact that its code has caused serious damage not only to Silicon Knights, but a number of other developers in the industry. We look forward to successful resolution of our claims in this court proceeding"

I guess this ends any chance of Too Human being released in the near future.

I thought the Unreal Engine was running spic and span on the 360? EVERYONE is frickin using the Unreal Engine. I made a thread about it awhile ago.

The original article has now been updated with the full allegations.

"Rather than provide support to Silicon Knights and Epic’s other many licensees of the Engine, Epic intentionally and wrongfully has used the fees from those licenses to launch its own game to widespread commercial success while simultaneously sabotaging efforts by Silicon Knights and others to develop their own video games."

It also goes on to state the SK are blameing Epic for the poor showing of Too Human at E3 06. Aparently SK are now making thier own engine to run Too HUman on.

Given the widespread use of the UE3 and the aclaim given to it by some of the leading figures of the industry SK's claims are surprising.

Posted in the news section.

I am sick and tired of this game, every time something goes wrong with it they blame someone else.

The game has had disaster written all over it for a long time now, hopefully the final product delivers for their sake and for the gamers'.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

They should just go ahead and change the name from Too Human to Too Duke Nukem Forever

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

so basically what this is saying is that they hire horrible programmers and cant make a game with a program as simple as the UE3? I have UE2 demo kit on my PC and its easy as hell to use so how hard is it to use the UE3?

Dennis Dyack has very strong opinions.

He has said for some time that he doesn't want to make demos but to create games and then and only then show- off the game. So that is the reason he did not show anything at E3. His argument makes sense. It takes time and resources to make demos- why not put that into finishing the game? (And Yes I like Demos but I like good Games more).

I think all of this bodes well for His return to Nintendo. All I want is another Eternal Darkness... but he probably is going to make some kind of silly miny game since ED didn't sell well. It got great/ rave reviews, IGN even started a campaign to try and get people to buy it... but nope.

...but I digress...

Should another company come along and back him up, then we shall see if he is making an excuses. Till then, I've no opinion.
