Forums - General Discussion - Substitute Teaching

So I've started Substitute Teaching and its hell, the school district is particularaly bad, alot of kids from broken homes and and trashy environments so the atmosphere at school is one of controlled chaos. Does anyone else have any similar experiences to relate to unraveling trials?

I go to Walmart every so often. Does that count?

I am wondering where taught if you don't mind.

Finding this enviroment for a school district is horrible

Well, I'm currently in high school and yeah, the kids don't really treat the subs with much respect. They know that you'll only be in their class for a period, or one day etc.

And usually the homeroom teacher usually gives pointless work to the sub knowing that the kids won't be able to finish it. Or maybe even watch a movie, just to keep them busy, and this happens for me in a Grade 12 university course :/

360 IS OPERATIONAL AFTER 37 DAYS!

When i used to go to junior high, my year and the kids 1 year older&younger than me were considered to be the worst that had ever invaded the school. A lot of poverty, drugs, alcohol, the whole deal.

Want to know the truth? Don't try to be nice, you'll only get burned. Note that i'm not implying that you should treat them badly.

Teaching kids isn't the real teeth kicker. Try teaching a whole group of adults, over their 30's, and try to get them speak o different language. I wanted to bash my group's skulls in into the second week

Huh. Who would've thought that beggining anew in my real life would coincide with starting anew on vgchartz?

Any day now, the dollar will be worth less than 2 zloty......any day now.....and my life savings will be in total jepordy ;(.

Substitute teachers get and deserve no respect.

They don't have the qualifications to do the job, and they shouldn't. Just give us our busy work, or put the movie on, and keep it moving.

We really didn't care about them unless they tried to force us to do the work, or tried to get all big and call the administrators. Once they so that, it's on.

Just give them the busy work, and don't crack. If you show weakness, they will own you. But you seem like you can handle yourself on these forums, you should be fine.

my aunts was a subsitute teacher (was a full time before that) and ya its rough. Just hand in there and keep them busy and you'll be fine.

I remember having substitute teachers, that's when everyone started acting crazy. Now that I'm older my classes have been more mature to substitutes, mostly.

I had this substitue teacher that everyone called "Mr. Jim". People weren't disrepectful to him or anything but all he did the whole class was tell his life story.

This.  In high school, my grade was considered one of the best to hit the school in many years...lots of smart kids and overachievers...we still goofed off when we had a sub though.

I can respect an assistant teacher who has significant education and just needs experience being a teacher...and I will try to respect a substitute, but a substitute generally doesn't know the specifics...they might be smart but usually they don't know what exactly we're learning about.  Their job was usually just hand out homework and keep the class in line.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )
