Forums - Sony Discussion - Dirt, one of the few better multi-platform games? (rumble rumor included)

So, we've probably seen a number of comparison pictures videos comparing multi-platform games between the Xbox 360 and PS3. Dirt is another game that looks like it will actually be running better on the PS3 than it did on the 360. It doesn't look like it'll get extra content, but in the time between the 360 and PS3 releases of the game, they've been able to fix up the frame rate problems that were on the 360 version and Gamespot didn't notice any dips in performance when they tried it out.

"The word "optimization" was used more times than we care to remember during our meeting. In the months since the Xbox 360 game's release, the development team has had an opportunity to get the PS3 version's frame rate a lot closer to the steady 30 frames per second that it should've been on Xbox 360. We can't say for certain whether or not the frame rate is consistent throughout the whole game at this point, but we didn't notice any drops during the three races that we tried out, so that bodes well."

So that is another game on the list with others being Oblivion and The Darkness as games being equal or just little better on the PS3.

The next part of this thread is that when PS3Fanboy looked at the game, they saw a rumble toggle in the options menu. Now, we already know that the PS3 and some games (such as GTHD) make use of rumble in steering wheels like the Logitech ones, but could this mean that a rumble controller is right around the corner?

"There was a rumble option in the game's options screen. John asked the folks showcasing the game if the rumble feature would exist in the final product for the PS3 and they answered yes. DiRT is prepared to take advantage of the new rumble feature coming to the Sixaxis controller in a matter of months. Isn't that exciting? The controller isn't out yet, but game developers are already prepared to offer the feature in their games. It's great news for all of us, especially those who really need to feel some vibrations in their hands. You know who you are!"

It'll be just like Oblivion, more dev time = better looking game, if done properly. But it'll still be an old game and won't sell all that well comparitively; not many of the late-on-PS3 multiplats have.

It's also somewhat good news in that developers are getting the hang of the PS3's programming.

Indeed. They've also upped to 60fps for Madden 08, I believe. So, the PS3 should age like fine wine as long as developers keep learning new tricks that take advantage of the Cell. This is the reason I'll pick up a PS3 in another year or two, when it's reasonably priced and finally showing off its power.

Anybody have the quote about what Infinity Ward said when asked about developing between the 360 and the PS3? I think they talked about their response in one of the 1up podcasts.

I think it was instead of complaining about the systems, when asked about the differences between the 360 and PS3, they said "just programming".
