Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The Wii's current lack of mature content games: temporary or terminal?

I noticed that you said you were wondering how FPS control on the Wii. The IR pointer is very accurate and works very well for shooters. It is much more natural than dual analog controllers and in my opinion, works much better.

Thanks and for everyone else for the helpful info, I hated the dual analog stick on the PS for FPS and this looks alot more intuitive, I think I'll give Metroid a go too.

Anyways I remember back in the pre-launch N64 days, Nintendo had this big 'adult' push to revamp their image with Killer Instinct and Cruising USA, then it just sorta... died out I guess. Heh.

It's purely academic at this point, though i can't help but feel that it more like a vicious cycle, and one that I hope Nintendo breaks.

With the exception of Resident Evil 5, the Wii really is the best console for Zombie killing.

thats one mother of an exception though

Left 4 Dead is a much bigger one in my opinion.

Does the Wii really even have less M games then the other systems?  If so i haven't really noticed... I mean I don't tend to check the ERSB ratings before i buy my games... I just buy the ones that look fun to play.

i noticed this a while ago.

AAA mature titles like RE5, FF13 FF13v, GTA4, MGS4 are STILL HD.

and those are the games i care for, this christmas and next year look alot better to have ps360.
than a wii.

FF12 had an ERSB rating of Teen.

I think every Final Fantasy has.

Versus have blood in the cloud trailer, and ff13 have more damage and weapons that previous FF.

Family friendly is the face of the wii. Nintendo has always been this way.

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

A blessing.

And how are FF13 and RE5 "AAA mature titles" when they're not even out yet?

LOL mature games? so blood and gore was really a mature game even most playing those games are atleast 13 years old? Hhmm...

Anyway, onto topic I've bought 2 games, Sonic and the secret rings and Top Spin 3. Guess what Im playing more, Top Spin 3... Simply because theres no violence or blood in a game doesnt mean its not mature. Mature games are games that are played by mature people, not because of content. There are games that can be played by both by kids and adults, thats why the Wii is invented.

Top Spin 3 was complicated for anyone who just played Wii sports, you have angle shots, volley, baseline shots, lob shots and drop shots. And dont forget that the shots depends on how fast and how strong your strokes are. If Top Spin 3 wasnt mature as it gets I dont know what games are more mature. Infact, I like Top Spin 3 better than No More Heroes. If not for the blood and gore on No More Heroes I dont think the game wasnt enjoyable as it was. And lets not forget that No more Heroes was too easy and too short. You can finish it in just few siitings you can finished it in just one day. And yeah, NMH was repetitive, theres no variety to it. NMH deserved the sales as it was. Yeah, I only realized this just now, my ignorance lead myself thinking as the OP before.

Now as for the Op's post:

1) Third parties recognize that the demographic audience for mature content games are simply not there, most wii owner are either younger children or more 'family oriented' adults.

"There is, core gamers just dont know it like what bdbdbd's last post because of game media's ignorance. Most gamers dont know how third parties work hard just to cater on core and casual alike. Third parties on the Wii make unique games than in any other console. Just look at my lists and there are games that I didnt bought yet"

2) The Wii hardware is 'inferior' when compare to the HD console, the nature of a mature content game require 'authentic' and 'realistic' graphic that the Wii has trouble generating.

"So as the PS2, guess what console is winning in the last generation? Simply because Wii dont have Final fantasy XIII, SFIV and resident Evil 5 and Soul Calibur 4 and Tekken 6 doesnt mean 3rd parties ditch the Wii, except for the usual suspects I dont want to post names because it will make a flame war. Again, just look at my lists of Wii games all of them are good and 1/3 of them are made by third parties."

3) Developers and Publishers have been caught flat footed by the Wii's runaway success, it was not until it became clear that the Wii had became the current gen's market leader did development of games truly began and 2009 will be the years to see some of these blockbusters come to light.

"Yeah, in 2006... In reality, even during 2006 most third parties jump ship to the Wii especially on Japan and HD console games like Metal gear Solid 4 and Resident Evil 5 and Tekken 6 are bound to be delayed and delayed and delayed. I mean, how many months before PS3 fans have chance to see MGS4 and after MGS4 what games does PS3 worth owning? Not that much..."

4) Nintendo is intentionally keeping the majority of the mature content game from the Wii in an effort to keep a 'clean image' with its target audience.

"AGAIN, NO... If not whats with Disaster Day of Crisis and Fatal frame 4! O_o"

Well thats my opinion AND YEAH... Im changed. Theres only 3 steps for you to get out of the box which is the "so called" core gaming attitude:

1) Dont believe on reviews, Top Spin 3 deserve to have a score of 8.4 atleast and yet reviewers give it lower than that.

2) Buy games what YOU WANT or the MAJORITY wants. Wii play, Wii Fit, Wii Sports, Mario and Sonic, game Party, Sonic and the secret rings, carnival games, Wii Ski, etc... YEAH, most of those are casual games and reviewers didnt give those games higher than 8.6 but top Spin 3 have lower score than 8.0. Just trust on your instinct dont get to the hype and dont let anyone dictate you which games are good and which games arent. Its your money after all, if you're not sure atleast rent it or buy a game if it is in a budget price.

3) Try a game which is different genre, not all games are JRPGS, FPS, plaatformers, action adventure games and survival horror. I could recommend you Dewy's Advenure, Boom Blox or Zack and Wiki, dont let the cutesy graphics and lack of blood fool you, its as core as it can be. Atleast just rent it if youre not sure...

end of core gaming days prediction:

E3 2006-The beginning of the end. Wii introduced

E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.

E3 2010- Tape runs out

http://www.fivedoves.com/letters/march2009/ICG_Tape_runs_out.jpg

i don't think it lacks any kind of game, i has it's zombies (resident evil and some others) and GTA style games like Godfather and Scarface.....

and if you take a look at the coming Wii games thread, there are a lot mature games...

RE5 will definitly be over M just by looking at the trailer (has it been rated?), I don't think FF will ever be a M as the genre doesn't has never been about blood and guts.

I don't check the rating of a game I am purchasing, I just tend to purchase more violent games and as a result find my library is kinda full of M rated stuffs. My last few Ps3 games have been: Ninja Gaiden Sigma, DMC4, MGS4, Siren, SC4, Assassin's Creed and Uncharted. Only 2 of these games are T, everything else is M or over.

Similarly, my PC purchase have been CoD4, Crysis, CC3 and Bioshock, all but one is M... its not intentionally, but its definitely about taste.

That wasn't my point. "AAA" implies they have been reviewed.
