The Saturn was released in November of 1994 and the Dreamcast was released in September of 1999, the saturn wasn't withdrawn early in favour of the Dreamcast!

I owned a Dreamcast but I bought it the day after Sega announced it was canceled because I could buy the Dreamcast, 5 new games and the Keyboard for $99 ...

Edit: basically, I can't tell you how it felt because I owned the system too late ...

I owned a Saturn and a Dreamcast since launch and well I had a lot of fun with both consoles. Saturn mainly with Sega Rally , Nights and Panzer Dragoon 1,2 and Saga and for the Dreamcast I played Soul Calibur , Sonic Adventure , Sega Rally 2 and Ready to Rumble to death.
All in all I didn't regret my purchases.

I had them both for quite a while and had a blast. I played the Panzer series, Sega Rally 1 & 2, and Virtua Fighter 1 & 2. I couldn't get into nights, though. Ready to Rumble was quite fun, lol. I didn't regret purchasing either unit because, back then, Sega was at the top of their game in making some of the best software out there.

I hate trolls.

Systems I currently own:  360, PS3, Wii, DS Lite (2)
Systems I've owned: PS2, PS1, Dreamcast, Saturn, 3DO, Genesis, Gamecube, N64, SNES, NES, GBA, GB, C64, Amiga, Atari 2600 and 5200, Sega Game Gear, Vectrex, Intellivision, Pong.  Yes, Pong.

My parents bought me a Dreamcast at launch. I can't see why the system had failed. It had a good price point, had a good amount of time to build momentum, and a pretty good launch. Just goes to show us how strong the PlayStation brand is. Back then, at least.

I would actually say it was how bad the Sega brand was ...

The Sega CD and 32X put a bad taste in people's mouth and Sega really made matters worse by releasing the Saturn at too high of a price and without any games; the Dreamcast was doomed to failure regardless of how good it was.

I had a Dreamcast .Well ,in fact I have 4 Dreamcasts right now .When I bought it I thought maybe it was a transitory console until the PS2 and the new Nintendo came .Seeing as it was a great machine I appreciated a lot the Dreamcast and I bought a lot of games for it .THey were very good and fairly priced .And then ,when things looked rosier than ever (the sales were increasing due to the price cut ,the megagames as Shenmue were arriving and there was lots of games announced ) Sega announced it was out of the business and that in some months it would cease the production .

It was very sad .Still the next year great software came (Skies of Arcadia ,Grandia II ,Shenmue II ,Virtua Tennis 2 ,Headhunter ,Sonic 2 ,Craxy Taxi 2 ,Rez ,etc ) .

What killed the Dreamcast wasnt Sony ,but the failures of the Sega-DC ,32X and Saturn ,added with some key errors as not including DVD and the ease to pirate it .

@ Cadence, welcome here, hope you have fun :)

and I too have a dreamcast and don´t understand why it failed so suddenly, I would never part from it though because I still enjoy House of the Dead 2 and VirtualCop2 (with lighguns) with my buddys and of course Capcom vs. Marvel 2 but that has been out on other consoles as well, guess the PS2 hype just was to strong and the Sega name to weak at the time, but I still love it and don´t feel riped of

Out of the blue I decided to by a dreamcast with resident evil CD, soul calibor, shenmue and MSR. The best choice I ever made. The dreamcast is surely one of the most underestimated consoles of all time.

I also got my self a saturn from our local market for £20! with virtual fighter 2 and panzor dragoon for £4 each!

Never even seen a n gage in the flesh. dont want one,  never owned one and dont care about one.

call me Aaronbunny!

Wii code: 6993 4542 2457 6182. plz add me Im a wiily gd friend

I bought neither, though I did something even worse. I asked for a Virtual Boy for christmas and got it!

And considering that I didn't have to spend any of my own money on it, it was a pretty good purchase.
