Forums - Sales Discussion - Can Rock Band Pull a Skate?

By this I mean since it is coming out earlier so getting a jump on sales and basically staying ahead.  Mind you I know GH is bigger then tony hawk so is not like it will flop or anything but will this give Rock Band the edge to actually beat GH in sales this time around?  Also this is the standalone game that is coming out next week while the bundle is closer to GH's date 10/19 vs 10/26 respectively.

I really think it can and put me down as one who is picking it up next week!  Between all the downloads I have and being to transfer 55 songs for $5 bucks I can do the same or give the disk to my cousin as he is picking up Rock Band this time vs last year he bought GH since it came out first.  What do people think?

No. From everything I've seen RB2 is not a huge improvement over RB1. Combine that with the fact they released RB1 on the Wii just a few months ago and are still gimping it. On top of that, they aren't releasing the Wii version on Nov 16.

GH:WT has better drums, better guitar, midi support, user created music and pretty much has all the features for the Wii.

The Wii GHIII was one of the best selling versions and could very well be the best selling for GH:WT. By not giving the Wii full support, EA/Harmonix is pretty much limiting their own sales.

Guitar Hero is a phenomenon. It wont be beaten by any other music game. Except Singstar for the PS3!

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

I think skate's outdoing Tony Hawk had more to do with it completely revolutionizing skateboarding games than with its earlier release.

...

It won't outsell Guitar Hero. But since it's a name brand now, it'll put up a huge fight. It'll be close - Rock Band is very well known where I live, and it'll amass a large bit of sales before GH4 launches.

Not only that, but GH fans are going to have to buy the drums and everything else this time around. It may hurt the game in the end vs. the fact that Rock Band already has a sizable userbase that owns the instruments already.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

No, but a valiant effort from Rock Band indeed. They should be happy selling less... They make so much money off of downloads anyway, they should just focus on being good. There's no way they'll outsell Guitar Hero: World Tour.

Yeah, at this point only pansy's play guitar hero in my circle of freinds. Sure the new guitar hero ads drums and vox etc...but to me that looks like they learned that guitar wasn't good enough and are scrambling to copy rckband.

GH DLC sucks as well...

While I don't think it will outsell GH, it will be close.

That didn't really prevent GHIII Wii from selling almost as much as the 360, even though every GHIII Wii was purchased with a guitar. And the install base of the Wii is much larger this year.

You might be right on the Wii side and overall it may not outsell GH but with the 360 version coming out next week I am confident RB can outsell GH on the 360.  Only thing I see from GH is the created music as a plus and possibly the instruments though we have to wait and see since it is their first drums and mic's.  Also besides adding support for those new instruments is not like GH is reinventing the wheel as well.  RB was the first to allow multiple instruments so I think that will also help it as GH is actually playing catch up this time around.  RB now has a following thugh not as big as GH it will keep it competetive.  Again sorry that the Wii version may suck but what you expect from a system not embracing downloadables and is running on weaker hardware.  I would hope the 360/ps3 version would have more!!!  Reminds me of those ps2/360 where the 360 version just had better graphicswhen it could have had more in my opinion.

What the hell does the Wii hardware has anything to do with... anything? It's not like Rockband or Guitar Hero are really different on 360 than PS2...
