Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Rumor: GearBox developing Halo 4 for the next Xbox?

I don't know man, FEAR had great multiplayer I think. When FEAR came out on consoles it had multiplayer better than any console FPS game I can think of. Halo 3 and COD4 totally demolished that for sure...but in 2005/2006 not much was out there that was as good.

I hate unreal touney and sure hope Epic has nothing to do with halo.

I haven't seen FEAR multiplayer so I wouldn't know. But I've played GOW 1 multiplayer with my friends and its pretty fun. They seem to have done the multiplayer quite well in that game.

Yeah, they have proved themselves much in terms of multiplayer but then again, had Bungie when they made Halo?

Seriously people, Gearbox is an awesome studio.

Gearbox is awesome, but Halo is one of my favourite games of all times. Its difficult to trust anyone but Valve to make a Half-Life and its just as hard to trust anyone but Bungie to make Halo 4.

If Halo was my child and Gearbox was looking after him for a while, I would call every day to make sure that hes alright.

Actually Squilliam, when you think about this, this is great news if its true. We have a talented but unproven studio working on Halo 4. Ofcourse they will want to out-do Bungie and put their studio name on the gaming map. While at the same time Bungie can work on other games for the 360 and deliver more quality software to us.

I hope so! I really do...

-never mind, entire post invalidated because i'm too stupid to realize the 360 launched in 2005 not 2006-

Five years is fine till the next successor comes out so this does sound like a decent plan.

I love Brothers in Arms. Probably my favorite shooter. I like it because of the story, very emotional.

Gearbox could bring emotions to Halo.

I don't know about the multiplayer, but F.E.A.R. was terrible on the 360!   It was the same game but the controller mappings just made the game nearly unplayable for me.  The game had so many buttons it just didn't work well on controllers.  Multiplayer might be better since you don't have to lean much I assume and I don't think you slow things down like you do in the SP, but it still probably isn't good.

I disagree...and the fact that a 2 year old PC port got 86% on Metacritic when it was release don the 360 means that a lot of people disagree with you there. Multipllayer was excellent in fear. 8 on 8 action with standard games such as CTF, Slayer and Team... Compare it to FPS multiplayer in games at the time (Darkness, Perfect Dark, Prey, Quake 4, Doom3...) and its head and sholders above all of them other than CounterStrike. The only complaint I had in FEAR multiplayer is that after game there is no trash talk...it kicks you out to lobby.

If MS released Xbox 720 with Halo 4 in 2010 then it would be #1.

Like I said, I didn't play the multiplayer on the 360 (only the PC) so I can't say much about that.  The only part I played on the 360 was the single player and the controls were terrible.  I even know people that worked on the game that completely agree that the 360 controls were terrible and made the game terrible on the PC.

I'd rather see Bungie make Halo 4 but Gearbox is a good choice for a replacement.  I love Half-Life and Brothers in Arms.

That's ironic. You know, other than Valve, the only studio to ever touch Half-Life is Gearbox. They made Half-Life: Opposing Force, an expansion for the original that's IMO almost as good as Half-Life itself. They also made HL: Blue Shift, another single-player expansion, and HL: Decay, a multiplayer coop expansion pack. Apart from that, Gearbox made the retail version of Counter Strike and co-developed CS:CZ. They also made the Dreamcast and PS2 versions of the original Half-Life.

I think that if anyone, Gearbox should make the next Halo, if Bungie won't do it. However, I'd still rather see Valve do it, as it will take 5 years or so for Valve to develop Halo 4 so the 720 wouldn't launch too soon.
