Funny you should mention that... You've had 3 PS3 breakages right? Do you also fold @ home? Thats been the main usage of my PS3 and its broken twice and i've also heard of a corelation between folding and PS3s breaking down.

I've processed over 440 Folding data units without any problems. Folding has made my console reset two or three times when quitting the program, but as for "breaking" it? Not based on my extensive personal experience.
From a design standpoint, there aren't any critical flaws in the hardware engineering. From a QC standpoint, the PS3 is still well under what is considered the average acceptable rate of failure for consumer electronics.
For all those who've had problems; somone has to end up with the bottom 1%. It's unfortunate, but it happens.
