Forums - Nintendo Discussion - MP8 is best selling of the series

http://www.cubed3.com/news/7975/1/Mario_Party_8_-_Best_Selling_in_the_Series!

The Mario Party series of party titles, developed by Hudson for Nintendo and starting back on the Nintendo 64 has been going strong for so long that you might think the 8th main installment would see a dip in popularity, especially given the side-story effort on GBA flopped and MP7 hit the GameCube when the system was on its last legs.

However, the Wii has not only revived the franchise, it has made Mario Party 8 the best selling in the series' history, selling 550,000 copies since launchin across North America on 29th May.

"The overwhelming response not only reminds us how much fans absolutely love the Mario Party franchise but also proves the unmatched ability of the Wii system to attract new players. Wii users are keeping the Mario Party going strong."
- George Harrison, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Communications.

The game also launched across Europe last Friday (having been delayed a couple of weeks in the UK alone) and has already stormed to No.1 in Germany. The game is also due to launch in Australian on 19th July.

Well I have to correct you: MP7 hit the Cube when it was dead

Other than that intressting. Do you know where we can find the charts for germany?

Buy it and pray to the gods of Sigs: Naznatips!

I was waiting for this, I noticed MP8 doing so well when it crushed Forza 2 at the same time.

Wonder how it's doing in the UK then..since they usually only buy games made of films

thanks for posting that, it actually puts it in perspective

Well in my opinion the Mario Party franchise is so stale it makes Pokemon look like the Ocarina of Time. Of course it's no surprise that it's doing well on the Wii: it's a party game and a casual game. It'll probably be one of the best selling Wii titles this year.

You know, when most people say best selling they usually mean sold the most units, rather than sold the most during the first four weeks. Of course the guy who wrote this is probably a native speaker of English, which means he cannot make mistakes, only use non-standard forms. =P

Not surprising since it's the first iteration on the new system and the Wii is doing a lot better than GC did initially and the Wii's demographic fits Mario Party a lot better right now as well. We'll see how far up the charts it actually climbs; when does it get released in Japan?
