It's a short-term blip, I'd guess. If not next week's numbers, then the following ones will be back to 50k-60k until we get to the fall/holidays.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

Even with all the 40GB shortages I believe the numbers are low.

We saw a similar dip in 360 sales in the weeks prior to the rumored, now confirmed $50 price drop on the discontinued 20GB SKUs.

It was a good call for MS to do announce the drop in conjunction with the announcement of the 60GB SKU so as to avoid cannibalizing current sales.

The average consumer is a bit savvier than some are willing to give them. Many are simply waiting for the right price point/best deal.

My only guess as to why Sony announced the 80GB upgrade so far away from its shipping date, is that 40GB stock in supply and retail channels must be near depleted, particularly since Sony claimed there will be no discount on the remaining stock.

I still see individual retailers discounting 40GB SKUs once the 80GB core SKU ships.

I think it may very well been a knee-jerk reaction to the 20GB cut and thrown into the conference at the last minute. I'm not too sure they really thought it completely through however. When they announced it I really could not believe it to be honest. It's just an educated guess however so anything could be as plausible as this.

Americans finally realized two things:

1.) XBox 360 is a much better gaming system than PS3.  The best games are either multiplat or exclusive to XBox, so no reason to buy a PS3.

2.) America's economy is doing horrible and more people are buying American owned products to make the our economy better.

Thats what should of happened, its actually a combination of XBox 360 price cut and PS3 switching models.

Point 1 is just pure flaimbait, and you know it.

Point 2 is just ridiculous. Considering that the console is made in Asia, anyways. That, and the fact that corporate fat cats couldn't give a shit about the working man, and all of the money would probably go into a foreign bank account, anyways.

"Huge PS3 shortages this week guys"

AND

"SOME Gamestops, BB, Target, Walmart have SOME 80GBs THIS week. That is a totally different situation to a couple of months ago where all retailers had full supply of 40GBs and sales were hitting 50-60k per week. 40GBs are only now available online and 80GBs are coming in limited quantities. That said, this weeks sales (27th - 2nd Aug) are already higher since there was a decent restock at many stores on Monday"

THIS WEEK NA numbers : PS3 over 50k (easly)

                   WW numbers : PS3 > Xbox360 AGAIN

It doesnt matter where its manufactured, what matters is who owns it and where the profit goes.  In economics this is called a job multiplier, when income for one person created income for others.

When money goes to Microsoft it goes to paying its American CEOs and workers who spend than money in our economy creating income and jobs for other Americans.  When money goes to Japan, India, Nigeria, etc. it goes into their economy.

Example:

You decide to buy a XBox 360 instead of a PS3.  After retailer, shipping, supplies, manufacturing, etc. lets say $50 profit goes to Billy Smith at Microsoft.  He uses that 50 dollars to eat at a restuarant in Seattle.  The resturaunt owner uses that money to buy a new shirt at a store.  The store owner uses that money to buy...

You get the point.

ManusJustus,

you know if MS dont go BR this year
then PS3 will continue to outsell Xbox360 in NA

do you know why ?

PS3 is more expensive but you get about the same console (Xbox360/Ps3 line-up is very close) AND the best quality/price BR player.

Expect PS3 Xmas sales, a perfect moment to buy a 400$ product, to skyrocket.

I hope not.  I'm American, and even though we deserve to be outdone by others because of our domination and wrongs in the past, our economy is getting so bad that we are starting to bring down other countries with us.  Microsoft is one of our few remaining economic battleships, Ford and GM beached themselves years ago, A-B was pirated by Belgiums, our steel industry is being bought out by Germans who are moving manfucaturing to China and SA (ran out of boat metaphors), it doesnt look good :(

Is there going to be another PS3 price drop anytime soon?? Also has the 80gb ps3 got a price drop because its 499.99 with the MGS4 bundle.
