Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3 - 15 million sold, 135 million to go

@BengaBenga
I agree wih your premise that Hirai shouldn't be calling his homeruns when his bat is broken.
But I still think his middling language and the tone of the article was enough to convey Sony's humbled position. Like I said, Hirai is painted into a corner, here, with shareholders and investors. Almost anything he said would be wrong to a bunch of people who just lost a bunch of money. So he's trying to convey a sort of cautious optimism that Sony has lately adopted towards it's Playstation brand. Investors see the word "try" and discount any wild predictions, as the language was intended. I'm sure they spent days coming up with and giving Hirai that line to give to the Times. It's middling, at best. The hope is that potential investors will look at Sony as a company who's learned from it's mistakes. Just read what he said, it was pretty weak considering some of the hyperbole coming out of the business world. I mean, if he came out and said "we're happy wih third place, no problems here" The stock would plummet. He's walking a tightrope.

What he's doing could actually get him into a lot of trouble.  If Sony were to face some serious financial hardship (which looks pretty likely), who do you think would be the fall guy?

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Well they are less than 10% there.... in more than 18% of the time.

So they better hurry up and increase their sales dramatically, or that will never happen

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Fullfilled Prophecies

i find that really funny. it will NEVER pass the PS2. I'd be very suprised if it passed half the number of PS2s

if they loose money on every counsel they sell then there going to be broke once they sell all of those

@steven787 Yes, I agree with that. His days are certainly numbered if the PS3 doesn't take off soon. I think it might do well enough to maybe keep him in that chair, but I doubt it. He's got one of the toughest jobs in the industry right now. The CEO is always the fall guy when the Board can't explain away losses. And it seems every time I hear something about the Playstatin brand, it's about somethig they lost(GTA4, FF13, etc.) His job depends on how well they are percieved at the upcoming Game Expos in Germany in Japan, which is why I think he played his cards close to the vest at E3. After MS stole the show there, he didn't want to bring out the big guns only to settle for a tie, but to spread it out over the remainder of the year. I think he might be gone by January if they don't do a certain percentage better than they did last holiday season.

oh hoh, Kaz, your so funny. Your a hoot. Oh ho ho,,,,,,wait, your serious..............oh..........um, good luck with that one (lol)

LoL you all are so blind or is it something else.

15 million at $400 or more.

Try to wrap your little brains around that little fact.

At present, Sony PlayStation 3 is the worst selling latest-generation video game console.

id like to know how you have come to a conclusion that ps3 is the worst selling console, its been outselling 360 since fall 2007. so that sentence is wrong!

IN all technicalities he's right.  PS3 is in this current generation and currently it is in last place.  So the statement that at present the PS3 is the worst selling curent gen console is completely correct.  Man and I thought my pr reading was bad.

Well good luck with that Sony.

If the Playstation 3 sells as much as the PS2, I'll be flabbergasted.
