Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Were there really any big, decisive, 'glorious' battles that the Germans actually won?

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

What pisses me off is that although you never get to play as a German in as single player shooter, you do get to play as a Russian, and the Russians and everything about them in WW2 was far worse then anything the Germans could pull.
Stalinist communism was a million times worse than Nazism.

I wouldn't say a million.  It was more like twice as worse.  They killed like twice as many defenseless people, though they did it based on people who were against them, not on race if that matters.

I'd say the major problem would be portraying it well.

It could be done... but I think that the writing at videogames is at such low levels they'd likely botch the whole game by making the higher up guys like cartoonish villians and towards the end have the German soldier's squadren rebel and suddenly kicking all the other nazis asses.

Kind of like the movie "America's Army" where the US soldiers stopped some illegal prison run by the CIA then killed like 20 terrorists with machine guns with nothing but their combat knives.

I remember Operation Europe having a few... right before the Battle of the Bulge scenario.

The german afrika corps won some huge battles in the battle for north africa.

Afrika, the battle of Arnhem/Market Garden, The Blitzkriegs of Europe in the 1930's/40's, the initial assault on Russia and of course numerous smaller actions that haven't really gone down in history.

I agree with you Esmoreit. I just picked the afrika corps as an example of huge battles the german army won during WWII.

Yeah I know, was merely supporting ;). But I wanted to make sure that there is at least enough variety in maps to chose from.

I still think its kind of too soon. Networks would interview people who were in concentrations camps or soldiers who fought in the war to get ratings and would get people to look down (even more) videogames.
I think they would accept a case of a german soldier that goes against the nazi regime and tries to go against them.

There was Silent Hunter III, controlled German U-boats. I think that is about as close as you can get to playing the Germans without feeling dirty about it

Games I am looking forward to:

PC: Diablo III, Fallout III, Stacraft 2, Spore, Empire: Total War, American McGee's Grimm

360: Madden 09, Fable 2, Left 4 Dead, Blood Bowl
