Forums - Gaming Discussion - Sega doubts Wii

Hohohohoh oh man! Hilarious!

Don't worry y'all. It's only from the American branch's marketing VP.

They'll can him by the end of the fiscal year for this kind of shortsightedness. One employee review will separate the men from the boys.

This Wii bubble myth has to end. There's no stopping this juggernaut. And really it hasn't even gotten started yet.

Everyone loves the Wii, right? You, me, old people, soccer moms, kids, Frenchmen, the works. It's all the rage. Right? Maybe not for long, says Sega's American marketing VP Scott Steinberg:

"I am a little concerned about the creative depth of the Wii pool. I'm not sure if they will top out in 2008 or 2007.

The Wii will start to look really dated in a couple years when developers get more value from the 360 and learn more and more about the PlayStation 3."

Wait. There's more. It wouldn't be Sega if there wasn't a further element of self-harm to it now, would it?

"But how much value can developers and creative folks get out of this wrist motion two years from now, or 5 years from now, or 10 years from now? How can they design products that aren't too derivative of what's already out there?"

OK Scott. So you're not big on the Wii. Don't know why you need to go hating on it, but got it. So who are you betting the farm on?

"We know the PS3 pool is pretty deep. There's a lot to exploit there."

Oh Sega! Burning bridges to the biggest and fastest-selling console on the market! You so kuh-razy! No, really. These kind of comments are fucking, needlessly nuts.

I've got my serious doubts about Sega, it's even a shame that one of their guys come up with these comments while Sega wants the Sonic franchise on the WII only as a console game and they are working on Nights... And after these comments he really thinks the WII gamers will still highly respect Sega?? Shame on you!!

There's a thread called "Sega doesn't like the Wii..." on this topic already, sorry.

My 2 cents before I close this thread...I bet Scott makes a statement soon, saying he still likes the Wii for what it is, and that he's not anti-Wii. Just a prediction.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Nights doesn't look that great IMO. It may turn out to be a solid game though.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S.
