Forums - Sony Discussion - How long until full Flash 9 integration in PS3/PSP's browser? Ray of hope

My ps3 browser locks up all the time on vgc. It also does it quite often on n4g.

I think either 2.40 or 2.50 will have an upgraded flash player for the PLAYSTATION 3.

Its sort of imbarrising having a browser on par with the wii.

Why? Also nice spelling.

There are several reasons why, one is because the PS3's browser is on par with the psp's... and yes thats not a good thing.

I wouldn't say on par, PSP can't even handle YouTube.

That'd be sweet to get flash support for the newer versions.

Didn't Sony say that it would be up to Adobe or whatever to create newer flash support?

Before, it was up to Adobe to port Flash to support PPC (cell). Adobe chose not to, which is why Sony licenced a very old version from Macromedia (now owned by Adobe) which is compatible with PPC.

Since May 1st, Adobe now has the policy, that if YOU want to port it to YOUR architecture, then YOU can do so. So the ball is therefore in Sony's court to port the newest version of Flash to the PPC (cell).

Well then good, I'd really like to go watch things on newgrounds rather than like 5+ year old flash animations.

Well, if Sony were to just use Opera Mini...

It is not a matter of what web browser they use, rather the fact that Flash 9 capable players have not been ported to PPC by Adobe, The same can be said of 64-bit processors unless my information is out of date.

Lucky PS3/PSP (if true) =/ Wii only has Flash 7. I can't watch GT vids on it >_

Um the Flash Player has been on PowerPC Macs since forever (Flash was first released in 1996 on Mac and PC). Flash Player 9 is currently available for PowerPC Macs. So I don't really understand what you mean when you say Adobe refuses to port Flash to PowerPC? It is already on PowerPC, just not on Sony's Cell chip and PS3 OS.

Hardcore gaming is a bubble economy blown up by Microsoft's $7 $6 billion losses.
