Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Do you have Wiiitis?

Are you suffering?

"Wii injuries, often dubbed "wiinjuries," have been noted since the console's launch, but now one doctor has decided to give the tennis elbow-like symptoms caused by excessive Wii play an official medical diagnosis: Acute Wiiitis.

The condition, pronounced "wee-i-tis," was named by Dr. Julio Bonis, who suffered from the ailment from playing hours of Wii Sports. Bonis' findings were published (subscription required) in the New England Journal of Medicine and later reported by CNN.

Acute Wiiitis can reportedly (and thankfully) be treated by taking ibuprofen for a week and also a week-long break from using the Wii remote, but warning: it's best advised to treat it soon or the long-term ramifications could be dire."

lol, this is crazy!

Good thing I hate all the current Wii games. I just want Metroid and RE4WE.

'Wiiitis' wow that's original. Can't anyone think of a mock disease that doesn't end with 'itis'...

Ibuprofen is indeed a good treatment, since it reduces swelling in joints and such. I haven't had Wii-shoulder since a few weeks after I bought my Wii though. It made it difficult to raise the top on my convertible for a few weeks, but once I stopped overdoing it, it went away for good.

I developed a mild case of Wii shoulder a couple days ago for the first time in months. I'm attributing it to a sudden increase of interest in Wii tennis.

That's what it's being called in the medical journals... So it's not really a mock disease...

Wiitis is a new form of Nintendinitis. Nintendinitis goes back to at least 1990 in the medical journals as a form of repetitive stress injury. Wiitis is different because it's more often sohulder area instead of thumb/hands...

-itis stands for imflamation.  Although some words may just be made up, but there is a reason these types of conditions end with itis.  If it's too origina, people wouldn't have any clue as to what it is.
