Forums - Sony Discussion - What would u do if PSN cost $$$?

There will be ALWAYS Free Online gaming on PS3.
Maybe they will start charge for dedicated servers, but P2P will be always free.

Sony is planning to release more online games, i mean MMO stuff, and if they will chargem, then liek Warcraft do, a monthly fee. This is the worst case.

Anyway, i would pay only for a new FFXIII MMO game on White Engine.

Besides, till PS3 won`t outsell x360 in USA by a LOT, there won`t be any fee.
So, you can relax till late 2009 atleast. =)

Every 5 seconds on earth one child dies from hunger...

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.

Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

I still can't believe people pay 5 dollars a month to play xbox online.

I'm guessing the introduction of Qore is Sony's stealth attempt at seeing how PSN members would respond to a paid service, which some people are stupid enough to give in to. Should PSN cost money in the future (wouldn't surprise me) I'd boycott the service, but it'd be like me refusing to pay $4 a gallon for gas and every other obsolete fuel-dependant moron giving in to the corrupt oil companies. What can I say? It's futile and you'll never be able to stop the idiots from giving in. Can you tell I've become quite the cynic? lol

All you touch and all you see is all your life will ever be.

Piss and moan but probably end up paying as long as it was a reasonable price.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

I'm not so sure they can do it. You can't give people the give people the golden apple of free online console gaming for a year and a half and then snatch it away like that. Yes, they'll get their yearly fee from those who remain online, but they'll lose at least that in the long term from people who choose the Xbox over the PS based on the online. I can see them charging for certain services like the online magazine Qore, maybe even for Home, but for your basic PSN and ability to play games online for free? No. That ship's sailed.
See: Netzero(in terms of customer retention.)

That said, no, I wouldn't pay for it. I don't see myself paying an extra $3-400 over the life of a console(that's a whole 'nother console!) for online that will never match what PC gamers get for free.

The online would have to be a lot better and more reliable for me to even considered paying. Even then i still most likely wouldn't

Owner Of: PS1 PS2 PS3 PSP NES GB GBA GC WII XBOX

i probably would stop playing online which would cut my video gaming hours down by 67%.

It would suck for games like Warhawk and Resistance which I've had some fun playing, but I don't think it'd be worth paying to play online. I'm hoping that this isn't where stuff like Qore is heading and especially a Windows Live approach of really gimping the non-subscribers, but I'll probably just get any multiplatform online game for the PC and leave the PS3 (or 360 should I get one) for the rest of the game.

Get mad then pay up.
