Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo $50 price reduction

I think too many people listen to analysts saying that Nintendo has lost an opportunity to sell the Wii in larger numbers by not having stock without reviewing the fact that no one has ever had to try to produce this much stock of a console before.

Any Nintendo price drop will be in 2009 at the earliest.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Well, logic dictates that if the Wii had a $50 price reduction the sales would = THE SAME. It's already sold out everywhere (at least in the US, don't know about elsewhere), so a price cut would be worthless.

It can't sell more, if it already is sold out everywhere. Nintendo's biggest concern needs to be producing MORE Nintendo's.

Honestly, I could see Nintendo reducing the price of the Wii at TGS 2008 if they decided to increase Wii production to 3 Million consoles per month starting October 1st 2008.

also ds got a price cut soon fter releese after psp came-out in order to keep it at bay.

Actually, Brain Age + Nintendogs kept the PSP at bay.

Well, more like Brain Age + Nintendogs rocket boosted the DS way past what the PSP could reach.

Back on topic: Price cuts are not the magical bandaid people think it is. Didn't help the Gamecube.

There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.

all I am say in is that nintendo has been playing it safe for a long time, they should boost production.

Nintendo should only price drop once they have a large surplus of Wiis meaning that they have at least 5M in storage to sell and are about to increase production. Everyone keeps saying why would N do that they don't have to. If they did their lead in hardware would increase to such a point that no one can compete with it and signal that developers have to make the Wii the core system of this generation.

thank you.

They wouldn't cut a price. First it wouldn't make sense since the Nintendo Wii in America is in high demand. If it wasn't then I could understand a price cut.

Nintendo is doing a fairly awesome job with the Wii. They just need to increase the production to meet demand.
